Impossible Master File Load Order(?)

Cutting to the chase.

Recently I fell into a state in which my current playthrough is bound to CTD after hopping a cell or walking for a while. This is not the issue I'm going to discuss, this is background - I'll probably ask for this separately. Thing is, it got me to learn more about modding as you do and it so happens I haven't sorted my load order properly with WryeB (there were still orange boxes left). I sat with it for a while and noticed a lot of mods require an order different than the staple "you must because it's stable", for exable Dragonborn after Dawnguard and so on.

Reference in attachments.

Is there any way to work around this conflict? I'd assume it's probably something to work on in TES5Edit, but I'm still learning that tool and it isn't exactly intuitive.

The problem stems from the Creation Kit sorting plugins first by type ESM followed by ESP and then by file date. With original Skyrim where the DLC were sold separately, some authors got the DLC in an order that is different than the intended order. Thus their files loaded into the Creation Kit with the incorrect ordering.

This is rather easy to take care of. Load the offending plugin in TES5Edit. Right click on it and choose to Sort Masters. Check the header section afterwards and you should see that the master files for that plugin have been rearranged.

Thanks, I didn't know what option to look for.

How safe is this to go on and to that for every esp? Can you estimate if it's going to do any good besides just looking satisfying?

I've done that for Depths of Skyrim so far, rather straitforward. Would probably go on to check it if not for the rampant CTDs.

You only need to do that for the files which are marked in Wrye Bash.

Are you running Wrye Bash after you have loaded all the mods you are going to use for that profile and then sorted them with LOOT. Otherwise you will have to keep doing this every time you add a mod or mods. LOOT is a good tool for a basic sorting of your load order but not a final one. If the mod author advises you to place their mod in a different order than LOOT has it follow the mod authors advice.

Also I would ignore any warnings by LOOT about dirty edits in mods and it's advice to clean them. Those warnings were put in by a third party who has no idea as to whether the mod needs those itm's or udr's to function properly., the same goes for any similar warnings in Wrye Bash. The only files I would clean are the three DLCs and the Update file, and keep in mind that is a precaution, not a necessity. Having said that I believe that for a large mod load it would be a wise precaution.

As in most advice you will get similar to this on these forums there are differing opinions as to whether you should follow said advice. I do not mean Ishara's but mine on LOOT. All I can say is when you hear differing opinions on matters pertaining to mods on these forums just follow the one that makes most sense to you.
