Modding Has Ruined Skyrim.

I'm just exhausted. I've been trying for months to get a stable Skyrim with the mods I want. I can't. It just won't happen. I can't just play vanilla Skyrim and I can't mod it without CTDs showing up. I don't know how some of yall play with 200 mods installed, I can't get it to run with 79. I've followed all the guides, read the manual, the description everything. It just isn't working. I've dialed my expectations back, cut my list of installed mods by more than half. Clean saved, restarted, clean installed. Everything. I've installed mods a few at a time. I've installed ATTK, SBW, used gamebooster. Tweaked inis. Reset inis. Everything. I've tried checking with performance programs: I'm nowhere near where this should be a problem. Not with my specs, not with the 3.1 GB limit.

But it is. The game will not stay up. Everytime I think I've got a stable game, I'm just a few hours from crashing. There's no way I can possibly check to see if the game's gonna stay stable without playing it for weeks on end. And there's no way that I can fix the problems that arise just by rolling back to an old set mods or an old save.

I'm not asking for help. I'm just ranting. Because I'm just exhausted. There is no doubt in my mind that I would be happier if I'd just never tried to mod this game. I'd be happier if I just never played it for PC.

But I have. And so here I sit wanting desperately to get the game playable and modded before school starts and seeing no way of doing it. The whole summer I tried. And it just won't work.

If you make it hours without Skyrim CTDing, that's really not too bad. If it's a framerate/performance issue you're having, I can see where you're coming from, but it's not unusual for skyrim to randomly CTD even without mods. There are mods out there that will set your autosave to something more frequent (say, every five minutes as opposed to whenever you open up a menu) if you're worried about losing progress.

I was making it hours. Now I'm not. It was crashing around an hour when on traveling quickly across open fields. Now it's crashing when traveling between loading screens. I was getting good perfromance--with a GTX 690 and no ENB I should be!--now its stuttering. And this happens even when I load up a save with no mods in its history.

When I said "I'm just a few hours from crashing." I meant I'm a few hours of total gameplay from crashing. Whether I get there all in one go or 10 minutes at a time doesn't seem to matter. Eventually, it's crash city. And there's no obvious cause. I just hate it.

I once had a massive problem with my skyrim installation, so I deleted my entire game (and I mean everything) and reinstalled Skyrim. Reinstalled the mods I wanted, and voila I was fine. It took me around two days (one day for skyrim to install another to get my mods back) but i haven't had any game breaking problems since.

Have you tried defraging your HD lately?? I know that when I havent defraged in quite a while that my game starts stuttering badly. It may not be the game thats having the problem, or it could be corrupted save game files. Or it may be a mod conflict, what mods are you using currently?? Are you using BOSS or some other load order management tool??

Guys I've done it all. I've reinstalled Skyrim somewhere between 3-5 times (inclusive, obviously). I've sorted with BOSS. I've paid attention to conflicts, I've dropped big mods (warzones for instance). I've downloaded vanilla saves, used my own. Everything. The only thing I haven't done is defrag my harddrive, but I've been getting this and getting it to go away temporarily all summer (the life of my PC). Also I think I had ATTK set to defrag when I was using it. No dice. Unless someone wants to personally come to my house and get my game running, there's almost certainly nothing you can do. I just wanted to voice my frustration where some fellow elder scrolls fans and modders could hear.
