SpiderAkira
Skyrim is meant to run one mod at a time. Of course nobody will. Myself a modder, gets frustrated at the CTD'S that happen every now and then. That's the one flaw with Bethesda is that the mods people are making are too much for the game to handle.I had to reduce to half of the mods I had. At 120 still active the game runs much better than before but crashes are still present every 2-3 hours. If there's one thing learned while playing Bethesdas games is have autosave on and quicksave often. Try clearing your virtual storage cache for Skyrim in the Appdata folder. It's the only advice I can give. Everyone else has suggested everything would. RS13
To be blunt... a lot of people are responding in ways that make it very, very, VERY clear they haven't paid any attention to what RS13 has said. It's quite clear he has an incompatible mod list and refuses to change it. When I said I'd tried *everything* did it sound to you like I meant think I'd tried everything *except* the most obvious thing? I've tried changing my mods over and over again. When I said I'd tried installing them a few at a time, did it sound to you like I installed a few got a crash and kept going? What I never said is that I really wanted or expected your help. Yet, you seem intent on offering unasked for advice while believing the worst of me. If you're determined to believe that I just refusing to follow your great skyrim-fixing advice, you could just not comment here. Even if its as simple as a mod incompatibility, that is of no help if the incompatibility's impossible to find. As I've said my problem is that it goes from stable to unstable when I'm doing nothing but playing the game. I take pretty extensive notes as I install mods and play-test skyrim. Here's some from almost 2 months (and multiple re-installs) ago: 1.) 4/29: 1PM: 1hr+ NC.Mods: Skyre, RGM's, BV, Predator vision, BMR, Werewolf MasteryNotes: Werewolf is considered a vampire. Does not show up in predator vision. Keeps {vampire} buffs. 2.) 4/29: 4PM: Nearly 1hr. NCNew Mods: Imaginator, Mighty Magic Scaling and DC, VampireLord Royal, WATERx2, Footprints 3.) 4/31: 1hr+ NC. Mostly crafted itemsNew Mods: Armonizer, TERA Armors, Better Dynamic Snow, Wet and Cold, W&C: Ashes, WMGAtmos, C-Horses x2, Bandolier, Harvest, Harvest Overhaul x2, KACE, Lock Overhaul, Customizable Weights, UFO x3, Razer Plate, Achieve That, EEO, CraftableODPM 4.) 4/31: Installed All Mods. CTD b/t 30-45 mins {Haha; I got greedy.} 5) 5/1: 2Hr (about 1.5 of constant play). NCNEW Mods: Unofficial Patches, 13 Oranges's Stuff, MoonPath, Wrymstooth, Locational Damage, Heart BreakerRemoved: KACE. 6) 5/1: Crashed in Under 20 MinutesNEW Mods: Deadly Mutilation, Dance of Death, DCO, Summon Shadow Merchant, No Auto Skill Books, Deadly Dragons, Portal, Apocalypse, Midas, Mining for Mages, conjure Chest, Glowtastic, Spell Tome-Escape, Slow Fall. 7) 5/1: Played for roughly 1hr. NC.Removed: Deadly Mutilation. 8} 5/2: Game froze at loading screen after roughly 1 hr (Less than that in terms of playing time). Again had Crouch Down Problems; Dead bodies not being harvested; fixed by changing the items to be harvested from deadbodies and then changing back.NEW MODS: MagicDuel Reborn, Spell Combos, Proper Aiming, Enhanced Blood Textures, DB Ascendant, My Home is Your Home, Blaze of Eventide 9) 5/3: Crashed in under 30 mins. Again, the problem occurred on a load screen.Same mods as (8} 10) 5/3: Crashed at around 45 mins. Not on loadscreen.Removed Spell Combos, DB Ascendant, My Home is Your Home and Magic Duel Reborn. 11) 5/3: Game froze in under 20 mins. Not on loadscreen. Removed Proper Aiming, Enhanced Blood Textures and Blaze of Eventide. Now Back to the mods I had after removing Deadly mutilation. (5/1). 12) 5/3: Crashed after roughly an hour. Still Having Crouch Down Problems. Harvest not working on Deadbodies.Removed DCO. 3.54. Dropped to config in (5) except without KACE. Reloaded (3Fin) {That's the name last save made before I installed everything}. Harvest Worked. Crashed in the time it took my roommate to take a shower. Deleted Everything. The only changes between this and what I see in TextEdit are the {comments} and the line "Crashed in the time it took my roommate to take a shower" which was changed to keep my rm's name off the internet. That's it. [Edit and the "}" after 8. It used to be a ")" but 8 ) shows up as an emoticon without the space.] As you can see the problem was--as I've said over and over again--I installed a group of mods and it seemed stable. I installed more and the game started crashing. I reverted to the old, apparently stable mods and savegame and it wasn't. I'm more knowledgable about modding now than I was 2 months ago. I've also gotten more precise in my install process and record keeping since then (looking at it now, it looks like I may have uninstalled KACE Auto-loot without reverting to an old save, but I may have failed to note the reversion; I know I didn't use the save with all the mods installed). I've scaled back my expectations (hey this sounds familiar). I've completely given up on half of the very first batch of mods I installed then. I no longer use of the mods installed at config (5). I am not trying to play as a vampire and a werewolf anymore (although that was my number 1 goal when that time through). I still can't get it to work. I refuse to play vanilla Skyrim. I refuse to play Skyrim with just a few mods. But I don't refuse to change my mod list. I've done it over and over again. Shadeybladey
I can see that as you haven't answered most of what I have asked you. I can also see that you clearly stated you have reduced them to 53 mods which you absolutely will not play without (and therefore will not change any of them), and yet you seem to have no idea what you are doing. You could not even enable papyrus logging, so I told you how. You insist on having multiple visual mods that overlap in their effect, you insist on running Hearthfire even though it is known to cause crashes with SO many mods, you insist on using the 53 mods you have left and yet several people have mentioned some that cause problems, either alone or together. Removing mods with scripts won't help unless you start a new game, and it's best to keep a Vanilla save and enabling the mods when you are in the Helgen dungeon. And when you remove mods you should remove the esp, bsa, meshes, textures, scripts and anything else to do with them, not just deactivate them and leave everything where it is. You probably have not even checked compatibility with the DLCs, never mind between mods, and I bet you have driver problems and your machine is choked with dust and fluff. If you are crashing due to overheating, you have the leave the machine off for a few hours, not blunder on regardless. This is my mod list and load order and I don't have any of your problems. The problem is not with Skyrim or modding, it's with your hardware and mod list. RS13
Shadey, you are not listening to me.I never once said that "the problem is with the game, or modding the game in general." In the OP I said "I don't know how some of yall play with 200 mods installed" which implies that I believe that some of yall DO in fact get it to run with that many mods. Later on the first page: "Unless someone wants to personally come to my house and get my game running, there's almost certainly nothing you can do. " Again, sounds like I think it can be done. And finally a few post ago I said: "I don't doubt that Skyrim can be made (relatively) stable with more mods than I have--and that makes inability to get it stable all the more frustrating." Yet you seem intent on taking my problems as a challenge to Skyrim or modding in general. It's not. I have no doubt you, your i3-using friend and many others get Skyrim to work with mods. That doesn't help me. And your insults and insistence that I'm been irresponsible with months worth of modding don't help me either. I'd appreciate if you could please comment on another thread. We obviously disagree about my basic competence as a modder, the quality of advice you've given, and the nature and difficulty of my problems. I don't want to turn this into a debate about, well, any of the things you seem willing to accuse me of. Go ahead, believe the worst about me. I won't even hold it against you. Just leave this thread to commentators who will either voice understanding for my frustration or who offer suggestions without assuming that I haven't done the basics. Shadeybladey
You are not a modder, you are a mod user and you are obviously doing something wrong but you are not interested in learning what. I don't really care what you think my motives are, I have a compulsion to help people who can't get their game working properly. You should always install the unofficial patches before anything else, for one thing, and some of your mods make major changes which conflict. Also, by "Crouch Down Problems" do you mean getting stuck in sneak mode and not being able to stand, or vice versa? Did you try sitting in a chair and standing up again? You see, if you had come here for help three months ago, instead of blindly plodding on in your ignorance and arrogance, you would not have had such a frustrating time and would not be so pissed off and negative. And you'd be more willing to be helped. Jog on! ~.~

To be fair what is basic to some isn't basic to others. soooo... basically when you make a thread like this that is an obvious fishing. you should of expected people to tell you things you may have already done. but instead of being rude about it or ignoring them, just saying thank you for the advice but i have already done that, anything else? would of been sufficient
TenderHooligan
Such an obviously baiting thread title probably doesn't help either. If someone claims modding has 'ruined' Skyrim on a modding site, modders are obviously going to want try and defend the community. Plus most people are generally nice and will just want to help after hearing such a story. I can understand the OP's desire to rant. Believe me, at times I've been so frustrated with my setup that I too felt like giving up. And as a teacher, I can relate to the pain of seeing the precious free time of summer slip away as you stare at your monitor and groan. But the OP's resistance to help and advice does seem odd, like it's more important to complain than to fix the issue. If venting is more important then okay, you've now done that. But if you want to play Skyrim, why not listen to and try and work with the people offering their help freely? Maybe it's frustrating if people are only advising you on things you've already tried and haven't worked. But if there's one thing I've learned since modding Skyrim, it's that there's always someone who knows something you don't and there's always something else you can try. Always. So rather than blanketly saying "I've tried everything" and getting defensive, try and work with the posters by being helpful yourself.
Raestloz
With a mod list that big, incompatibilities is not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when". I had a crashing problem before at a very specific area in Riften. Had to disassemble about 50 mods that I have to find out that the problem stems from the fact that I cleaned Dawnguard.esm with TES5Edit... (others do not seem to have this issue, so it's probably related to my machine) I had a crashing problem before even during Helgen breakout. Hours upon hours of watching a trigger happy Stormcloak getting cut off and idiotic Imperial General sounding all gung-ho again and again in an attempt to have a perfectly clean save. Turns out the problem is the mod I didn't want to let go. It's always the one mod you don't wanna let go. I do not know about your current load order, but the general rules:DO NOT install mods that pretty much do the same thing in different ways (overlapping). It's challenging Trouble. The last load order you post (that I managed to read) indicates you have multiple lighting/weather overhaul mods that overlap. That's not good. I also see a few mods that alter followers (especially Serana) so maybe they're conflicting I do not know how you actually test the mods, but if you want to play your Skyrim, you really need to drop a few or more of your mods. Most of your mods are armor mods. They, too, usually modify things that other mods rely. If anything, a good start is to play Skyrim with only unofficial patches first. After you get a stable game, add other mods one at a time. IF you find a specific way to crash your game, stick to that and disassemble your load order until your game no longer crashes
jjb54
If this has already been said - Please forgive me: When you said you did a total clean scrub and re-install --- Did you also go into the: <drive>:\My Games\Skyrim and delete those files - there will be three files. also in that same directory is: <drive>:\My Games\Skyrim\SKSE That also needs to be deleted too. More often than not - at least with me, those files create a lot of CTD's. (A friend clued me in and wow - even in mid game, I'll go in - Delete - and good to go. For some reasons those files can get 'bugged' .... Yes, you have to do some re-set in-game, like for me, turn the dang music off and re-set your game play level - what dialog is text on screen and such. Just a thought - and if this has already been suggested - please accept my apology. I just found a few friends also did the "Complete clean/scrub" but was unaware of this directory also needs to be cleaned/scrubbed ...
RS13
Here's why I'm resistant to help. My problem is that in ALL the mod setups I've had, I've gone through three stages:1) It works! Happy dance!2) Oh . . . Well the occasional crash ain't that bad. I'll just save more often.3) It's unplayable. And whenever I get to this point, I can't get old saves to work even if they worked before and even if I'm using only the mods I had when I made that save. The only constants in the six or seven LOs I've put together are Sky UI and Predator Vision. (I can try dropping Predator Vision, but I'd be shocked if it was the cause of all this. And SkyUI really is non-negotiable. If it's causing problems I'm just gonna play Oblivion.) I want to make it clear that appreciate the suggestions. I really, REALLY do. Even the unhelpful ones. I wasn't asking for help and the rush to help is really overwhelming. But the rush to help, impressive though it is, just isn't getting at the right problem. Put this way. I feel like I'm Yao Ming, dealing with yet another leg injury. You'll are the doctors saying "well, we'll preform this or that surgery and do this or that rehab and then you'll be good as new." That's nice, but what happens when the *next* CTD-athon happens. I've been on the forums before and gotten advice that fixed my CTDs before. But they came back a few hours later. Maybe that's a mod conflict to, but if it takes hours to show up, how am I supposed to tell what's conflicting and how am I supposed to enjoy the game when I'm always waiting for the next crash? My problem runs deeper than any particular set of mods. I need a solution that goes deeper as well. Whatever's going wrong, whatever I'm doing wrong, I'm doing wrong across multiple saves, across multiple mod configurations and across months.
