charwo
Well, guys, I've been around this block before, and while I'll look at the tutorial, I'm not sure it will help. Listen, I'm not unreasonable enough to think I deserve a teacher, just me all special. I'm actually desperate enough to ask. And it's good bben brought up texture modification, cause that got me thinking. I actually have learned to mod in the past, and do textures to the point I cared to. This brings me to the Sim City 2000: Urban Renewal Kit. http://www.amazon.com/Users-Manual-City-Urban-Renewal/dp/0490370101 This was a program that was unmistakably the spiritual predecessor of all Bethesda Ware mod programs. I learned to use that one not because it was simpler, but because it came with a 60 page detailed, graphically intense instruction manual. That's actually what I want even more than a teacher. Not a wiki, nothing online, a book. Anything online is effectively a scroll, a scroll that hurts the eyes very badly and sets off all my ADD triggers. If there is a book on how to mod using the GECK, problem solved. Also, book on how to do the modding, both texture and mesh. I'll go out and get them and leave the rant behind. But if not teacher, please tell me there's a book on the subject.
scottmack
As far as im aware there is no book that exists that is for teaching you how to use the GECK sorry.
dangman4ever
You could always just print out the wiki. Or collate all the useful bits of modding tutorials and print those out. Edited July 27, 2013 by dangman4ever
nivea
This is really a obscurer small time hobby, there are no books printed and there more then likely never will be. What you are asking for is just not realistic I am sorry to say, the book you want is already out there its the Wiki it is everything Beth would have printed in a book explaining the Geck. I have a hard time reading scrolling pages as well, I have ADD too (on top of other learning problems) and I will not say it was NOT a struggle to learn to mod. It takes me double the time at least to learn these things compared to other modders who I even taught myself. The only thing I can say is print things out if you can not read website stuff, find a page glance through it and if it looks like what you need print it. I see modders I taught the basics to learning Z-brush and making huge amounts of things from scratch while I still am struggling to figure that stuff out, it makes me sad and discourages me because I know for a fact it will be harder for me to do then them. But I am still willing to push through the best I can with trial and error, it really is one of the only ways to mod if tutorials can not help you. wolfpack91
A good place to start is modding other peoples mods, just start with simple alterations, learn where things are and what they do. Obviously don't share what you do but just use it to get the hang of things. thats the truth. thats also how i learned the basics of scripting diffrent items. my first scripting challenge was making a set of armor i altered ans retextured Project nevada compatable. took me about 2 days to fully understand it. but now i can do it almost with no effort. brothershogo
How I learned to mod: Trial and error, staying up to 6 am, coffee, cigarettes, and 6+ years of self-inflicted sadism. I guess it also helped that I went to college for graphic design. cccddd123
oh man, they're all right. Brothershogo speaks the truth. 6 am, thinking you finally got around it, CTD. Then you forget to invalidate. Then you think "oh, hold on. I know how to do this, it'll take few minutes. (10 hours after), and the result is a living nightmare of purple textures, inverted trees, floating crates and backwards walking npcs with popped out eyes. (maybe i'm just speaking for myself...i hope i am) Like someone above said, start simple. I started with guns. Not retextures or new meshes because i want to take it easy. Modify guns stats, rename them. Then make some leveled lists for them. Creating a radio station is relatively easy too, there's a good tutorial somewhere here on the nexus. Once you can do those...congratz, you passed from nothing to noob. Then make a companion, that's where i am now. It's quite easy, thousands of guides. If you can't manage anything online...well. sorry, there's no book on GECK. Don't think Bethesda will ever relase one since there's already a wiki.
