oxmox
There are way too many mods available which are really good and the best is to check top 50 aswell mods of the month. If you want to find more mods you have to invest 2-3 hours to get at least an overview. A lot of mods are good but influence the gameplay like you probably dont want, so it differs a lot if a mod is good for your own gameplay style. Here is a list of the mods i have installed, well a part of it: - mmmf3- xfo (just the parts i want)- Road Wardens- Water Tower Hideout- Jessi Companion- 4aces high resolution armor- josef greys texture packages i.e. hair, face texture and so on - slower leveling - best so far is extreme slow levelling - no fast travel mod- high resolution weapons- umpa animation- enclave commander (great mod but did uninstall it since its too overpowered for me )- whats your brand- some poses mod- kelsey companion- improved dogmeat or phalanx obidient dogmeat- dogmeat essential- overhead camera- directional pip light- megaton house overhaul- fo3 item description- weapon mod kit- malos nude body- wasteland player- mod for sky and night- companion behaviour overhaul............. list goes on...anyway you see there are loads of mods available and a lot more are really great, it depends on your own if you like those or not or if you want to add totally different ones. Best advice, take your time and check out the mod description by yourself...lots of pearls can be found. Best basic mods so far are which are needed for sure: slow leveling, xfo (parts of it here only) and marts mutant mod (mmmf3) and of course the great - no fast travel mod. These are essential otherwise you rush through the game and finish it in under 30 hours with 75% content still left, dont follow the main quest do the side quests. Try to avoid mods which give you overpowered weapons or support, the game should be hard and not easy if you wont get bored after short time. My character is Lvl 6 and have more than 25 hours gaming time so far and lots of content still left, aswell the whole main quest. Iam sure you will get over 100 hours total gameplay time with those modifications i mentioned. Iam very satisfied with the mods i did install so far...great work and thx again to every modder ! @Lucian and other beginners: give me feedback if you did like some of the mods i did recommand. JackKnight
For what it's worth, I'll agree with everyone else who basically said "it depends on your play style". I will, however, tell you which mods I have and mention the reasons why I think they are worth having. Not however that this list may not be very practical if you do not enjoy playing characters of questionable moral fiber as I do. * Fallout Mod Manager - an absolute must have, as it will make installing and running everything else SO much easier. In theory, should any mods conflict, it will also make dealing with the consequences so much easier... but I haven't had any problems yey. * Bittercup Companion - it's actually possible to get darn near anyone as a companion (more on that in a bit) but... what can I say? I like the spooky goth chicks. * Trynfkwtme Armorers - the strip club mods are amusing, I'll grant you.. but for my money Trynfkwtme's best work was this mod, which creates two shops which cell impractical - yet oddly protective - armor for female characters. Like, worse than chainmail bikinis impractical armor. Despite this, the armor is actually better than anything except Power Armor. Of course you'll need to have a nude mod installed for this to work properly.... * Mesmetron Works On Everyone - It doesn't work on quite everyone... some of the quest-specific NPCs are immune to the effect... or once they become slavs, their quest cannot be completed. Still, a very cool mod in that not only can this solve a lot of your financial problems - it can enable you to... ah, well I'll get to that. * sc_Slaves Stick Around - does what it says. Anyone you capture as a slave will stick around in the slave house in Paradise Falls instead of randomly vanishing off the map. Which comes in especially handy when paired with... *sc_Buyable Slaves - yes, for 750 caps you can purchase any previously captured slave and turn them into your mindless companion. Well, almost mindless depending on which ones you capture. Actually, a lot of them become more useful to you than they ever was as NPCs... Running all of these together (especially the last three) allows for a rather unique experience where you can... 1. Enslave virtually anyone.2. Buy them back3. Turn them into a companion. The cool part about this is that while most of the generic characters you can enslave will have just the usual, standard "follow me/wait here/trade gear" options, unique NPCs will still have access to their special conversation threads. To give one example, suppose that you - like me- find Moira in Megaton to be incurably annoying and wish that she'd go out and risk her own neck on the frontier instead of sending you into danger. All it takes is one zap of the Mesmetron (take out her guard first, of course), a handy dandy collaring and 24 hours later, you can have her wearing whatever humiliating slavegirl outfit you want, matching alongside you into the Mirelurk lairs. Now, this can be fun in and of itself if you go around enslaving characters who have been annoying, stupid or evil. But it actually becomes quite useful when you realize that Moira still has the ability to repair items and that she can still buy and sell merchandise. Suddenly, you have an on-call smith with you on your journeys for when your guns break AND a magical portal to her storage locker in Megaton, since anything she buys goes into the store inventory - not her personal inventory. Which means you can take back any money she earns from the store! Currently, I'm stomping around the wastelands with a team of 7 female NPCs - all enslaves, all armed to the teeth, all wearing Trynfkwtme's Recon Armor. My team consists of... BittercupCloverSusan LancasterBrunette Caravan GuardBlonde Caravan GuardMoiraLucy West I call them Ash's Amazons, after my current Very Evil female character Ash. I don't get much xp with a mob like this, of course.... but I also don't get much trouble. And there's nothing quite like watching a mob of 8 nearly naked women mowing down an equal size team of Talon Mercenaries with no problem. :)

PureSnipe
Okay, I'm one that likes models and detail that are spot-on, so alexscorpion's sniper kit with 4 barret .50 cals is a nice one for adding a better looking sniper rifle. Granted, it's a bit overpowered, but it IS a fifty, and one round will kill something no matter where it hits.
gregcoll
So, I was recently amusing myself by reading some of the comments made by people who have managed to get themselves banned and found that human interaction, coupled with the vast differences between us brought by all the things that make us who we are, has created a small dilemma. In my wanderings, I saw a lot of comments made that were uncalled for (as these mods ARE free and of importance to the creator). And...I also saw some comments that weren't nice but could still be called honest (ie: I give this a 1, 'disgusting'). Now, as this was not constructive nor useful for feedback other than indicating this person's opinion and while it might be stricken, to ban this person seems a little extreme. As far as banning goes, I did also get a definite impression that the moderators are trying to keep things fair and impartial (ie: moderator inter-communication to prevent personal bias) and so found that a limiting factor on the 'ban or not-to-ban' issue is founded in trying to abide by a set of rules.So...as the rules seem fair enough (as any community must have rules), why not change the voting system? As a simple example, allow one vote for mod performance (does it work, complexity, etc), then another vote based on personal opinion (do I like naked people in my game, does the mod fit with the game's atmosphere....in other words, opinions). This could allow for a more satisfactory feedback system for all involved as even if someone thinks a mod is stupid but performs well, they can say so (and should, this is America, right?). A mod creator must know that his mod will not be for everyone and should not expect a rating of 10 (or even 7 and above) from the entire gaming community. A nice vote on modding technique should compensate for a 'stupid idea-you get a 1' vote in the 'is this for me?' category. Now, I now that some egos are fragile and understandably more so if displaying one's efforts to the public (glimpse into the soul, and such). But now the author can ignore opinion and only look at the rating on his construction ability. If he wants to be brave and see how the mod appeals to the hoi polloi (or doesn't) then he can read the other to see who likes his idea and who does not. If a vote is very negative but with no feedback, so what?!. The author can now ignore this person (and think bad things about them if desired) because this other section is for.....yes, opinion. Even idiots are allowed them, and by the way, I actually prefer to have an idiot open his mouth so that I can more easily recognize and ignore him.A small (maybe not so small) benefit of this type of system is that a person seaching for mods can look at a particular person's opinion of a mod and now correlate this to his own style of playing (you know, naked or not, blood and guts?, more quest oriented or kill everything in sight, etc, etc). I say this as I have thought about having this ability but not being able to implement it other than looking through every single log and building my own data base on this premise. I also think that this small amount of investigation by a mod seeker towards finding similar playing styles will be vastly less than installing a mod that has been downloaded 50000 times only to find that it is not interesting to him while the one downloaded 57 times is just the ticket. So, this has gotten to be a little more than I intended to say (damn opinion) but, yes, by using the current methods, an honest rater will give a high rating to a well made mod even if it does not suit his playing style and so provide a rating that is difficult to judge. Now I know that someone reading this (moderator?) will say that the comments given with the vote will provide this information that I am speaking of,but (yes, another but), I have seen quite a few, as in many, 10's with no comment and have yet to see any of them banned. This comment is NOT made in order to ruffle anyone's feathers, nor usher in the acceptance of blatantly abusive comments, but perhaps makes clearer this issue of which I speak: opinions are inherent, diverse, useful and can be ignored (or at least segregated into something that is useful). I don't know how difficult it would be to implement something like this, but it is an idea (I'm sure that you great ones can pull it off if you wanted to, and if you do, probably three or four categories would be better). ZeonicGlory
A new and mod that's quickly rising through the ranks is FOOK. It compiles several great weapon and stat modifier mods and puts it all together with the leveled loot lists modified. It's especially fun with the Enclave Commander Mod.
