MrMcQue
After i installed Vortex for the first time and added the mods i wanted, everything went completely fine, however i have not started it since, as i didn't install any new mods. I only have a handfull (like 4 or 5) of essential Oblivion mods installed, like bugfixes etc. Now, a few weeks later, i wanted to start doing some stuff with it again. I clicked on the Vortex desktop icon my PC freezed first for a solid minute, afterwards i got a black screen and next a bluescreen with a "critical_process_died" error message. When my computer restarts it first asks for a boot device. So i restarted manually, and while it booted properly then, windows wanted to repair the C drive, which thankfully went without any issues. I don't want to brick my pc because of vortex so anybody have an idea why that is?
Tannin42
No. Applications can't crash, much less brick, your PC. For your system to blue screen you have to have either a hardware defect or (more commonly) a broken driver or (much less likely) a buggy OS version. Guest deleted34304850
as mentioned above by a generous and very accomodating developer of vortex, your assertion is, to all intents and purposes impossible. if your pc is showing the symptoms you have described, you need to carry out some system validations as a matter of urgency.as you've asserted that your issues are exclusively down to vortex (they're not), this is a bit of a black box, so here's some very high level things you can try; 1. if you can boot into windows make a backup of all your files as a matter of urgency. there are many options out there with which to do this, a google search can help you.2. look at your windows error logs. they will contain a lot of detail about what happened to your system immediately before it crashed. there is a lot of environmental information contained in these logs but there's also a lot of nonsense. sadly its down to you to filter out the good from the bad, but there will be indicators in these various logs about what was going on with your system immediately before it crashed.3. once you have everything backed up, i'd run windows update and look to install outstanding maintenance.4. do the same with your graphics card and any other drivers that may be somewhat back level.5. i'd shutdown the pc and then invoke any memtest/hardware tests that may be available to you via your vendor-installed software6. i'd look to get some software to check the health of your hard disks.7. have you installed or removed any hardware recently? this includes memory, gpu/cpu upgrades?8. perform a couple of reboots on the system, look for anything 'unusual' - unfortunately as each system is unique what could be considered "unusual" is going to be down to your own experience of how your system starts under normal circumstances.9. weird one - have you cleaned out your system recently, or even at all - sometimes a system that hasn't been cleaned for a while can start to give up weird issues like you have described. it's rare, but it happens. this is about as much as i can think of to try and get you going, however, one thing is for absolute certain - your issues did not start with vortex, so you can remove that from your list of possible reasons.
