Go to Jail = total possession loss

Its always frustrated me, that getting caught and going to jail is at best a trivial fast travel to somewhere else, i mean whats the loss of a few coins and a couple of days mean...nothing, even at the start of a game.

I would like a mod that going to jail strips you of ALL your possessions (inventory) and money, including clothes, and only leaves you with any lockpicks you had in your inventory.

You are then faced with two choices:

1. Pick the gate lock and make your escape in nothing more than your loin cloth, forcing you to accumulate all over again.

2. If you have no lockpicks or dont manage to pick the lock with those you have, you serve your time and the gate is opened for you, where you exit as before with nothing.

I dont play as a theif, but do steel stuff occationaly, but those that do and indeed those like me who get caught on occasions, this mod would provide a real loss attached to thievery thus making steeling a much more nervous affair.

At present i could'nt care less if i get caught.

Thanks

Im confused... in my playthrough on vanilla skyrim that's exactly how it is. you lose all your gear except 1 lockpick. if you fail you either wait the sentence out or sleep. is it somehow different for you?

also with the mod Imps Complex needs, the loss of a couple days really makes going to jail quite a pain.

I don't think there are mods that do this, you just lose your stolen items as always, but there are mods that make the penalties more severe, like 10,000 gold for murder, the fine for a theft is a multiplier of the cost of the item plus a fine on top, sentences are longer etc. If you have any survival or real needs mods, you will actually starve to death in jail!

I use:

Life In Prison
JailtimeMax100
vinis_crime_gold
Realistic crime report radius

There are others, but they overlap in effects.

And I wonder if it would be completely just to have all your legally acquired items confiscated, anyway?

Now, if any items you take from someone you have murdered (I.E. a Hunter you mistake for a Bandit, a Guard you accidentally hit in melee) were marked as stolen, you would have a lot more to lose by getting caught stealing a tomato from Whiterun market.

And that might be doable; but not by me, sadly. It would probably need a script that detects if the player strikes first, so anyone you snipe, whether Hunter, Bandit, Necromancer or Vigilant of Stendarr, will be a murder victim if you strike first and their gear flagged as stolen. Just NPCs, not creatures and monsters.

But then, how would anyone know where these particular items came from if there were no witnesses left?

I think he means that when you escape or get released you don't get ANY items back - you are just turfed out naked into the streets.

Typically, you appear out side the jail if you pay the fine, with all of your equipment (except stolen items) which is normally minimal, as the fore poster said, i would like to lose the lot including my clothes well except my loin cloth of course, forcing you to build from scratch again.

I do have RND, and did'nt consider the starving point...i'll suggest a one meal a day ration added to keep you from dying.

Wait... when you pay a fine you lose all stolen goods as it should be. you never actually go to jail, its more or less you appear outside the jail bc that's where you had to pay your fine.

but you never actually spend time in it. so idk why you would ever lose anything you own from that or why you want too ;o

you can just turn off starvation while in jail so you don't die. just get the massive debuff instead.
