Why does this game crash so much?

This game just refuses to play for me for 5 min without crashing. Fallout 3 was the same until i found an ini tweak, which fixed it completely. You could say i have too many mods installed, but frankly, my pc can run skyrim on higher settings, with more mods installed, and still get less crashes. Does anyone out there know of any way i can reduce crashes?

Your CTDs may be related to the infamous multi-core CPU incompatibility issue of the Gamebryo engine.

To fix it, open Fallout.ini which is found in ...\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV (make sure the file is not read-only), search for bUseThreadedAI=0. Change it to bUseThreadedAI=1, press ENTER and add the line iNumHWThreads=2. Save the file and you're all done.

yh thanks for the post. that was the ini tweak i was on about with fallout 3. i have a quad-core cpu, and have already limited the game to use just one core. might this be the problem? should i change it from one core and allow it to use 2?

i was also thinking to maybe install a smaller version of nmcs texture pack?

Last time i tried using this, i couldnt get nvse to work with it, nor could i make the game use the enb preset i have in the games directory. Do you know how i would get enb to work with 4GBNV?

Thanks

Latest 4GBNV should have a folder called "exes", try dropping your d3d9.dll from the ENB wrapper version in there (in addition to the d3d9.dll in the FONV main folder to be safe)

I'm using ENB 0.173, NVSE3b2, FNV4GB and the "fake fullscreen" mod all together, although i think both the ENB and the fake fullscreen mods only work with an older version of FNV4GB.

This ENB provides a working FNV4GB file: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/49882/?

Or try the one from this link which i am using right now: http://nvse.silverlock.org/beta/fnv4gb_nvse.zip

100% way to track your problem(s):

  • Delete/redownload your data folder.
  • load your game and create a "Clean Save" w/out mods
  • Install/activate each of your mods one by one, checking your game's stability after each one inside the clean save.
  • Be mindful of your install order; I like to install larger, more comprehensive mods first
  • Be sure to, at the very least, use BOSS for a mostly stable load order.

The likelihood of finding the exact cause of a crash is doubtful if you're trying to pick it out from a jumbled mess of mixed mods.
