Poacher886
Hi, I've been playing these games backwards Lol, first i bought Skyrim, after realising how good these game are i bought FNV, enjoyed that so much decided to buy Fallout3, here's where the problem is I have a decent PC so no issue there, im running Windows 7 which seems to be the issue. Firstly i have bought the GOTY edition via DIsk, it loaded fine, then i got the 5360 wont load issue, realised i had to install Windows Live! Pain as it was, this now enabled me to access the loading screen where i can choose settings / game start etc As soon as i hit the 'start new game' button it CTD, i read somewhere about the ini tweeks for multicore processors and applied those, plus the rumble pad = negative etc. The game now try's to load from the start 'new' button but just CTD every time...i dont even get to see the game intro. Any help here, as i a bit pissed after buying it, did'nt think it would be so much problem after FNV works fine Thanks
Bean3613
I was unsure so I had a look around. I came across this on a steam forum and I believe it works. Step 1: Go to http://www.mediafire.com/?flgl2nct1du0y1x and download d3d9.dll. When you download, make sure you click on the button which says 'Download (1.74 MB)'. There are usually ads on this page and I would take it under advisement NOT to click on anything else.Step 2: Move the .dll file to your Fallout 3 folder. This can usually be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3************************************************** ******MAKE SURE THAT FALLOUT 3 IS NOT OPEN FOR THE NEXT STEPS************************************************** ******Step 3: Open up the Configuration file in Notepad, (Which should be named "Fallout_default")press Ctrl+F and find the following line of text. NOTE: THIS IS CASE SENSITIVEbUseThreadedAI=0You must change this to:bUseThreadedAI=1Step 4: Directly underneath the changed line of text, create a new line and type:iNumHWThreads=2Step 5: Save the config file and then close. Then try to launch Fallout 3.These steps are basically telling the game to launch using just 2 cores. This way it will make sure that the game will not freeze due to errors trying to find 'outdated' cores. This fix will usually solve your problems, however if this has not worked and the game is still crashing then try these additional steps:-Uninstall Fallout 3, disable .NET 3.1 under 'Turn windows features On or Off', then reinstall.-Renaming or deleting the music folder inside the Fallout 3 folder apparently helps as well somehow? Hope this helped.
Bean3613
I have realised that installing that may cause the installation of searchnu. Don't worry, I believe it is harmless just annoying (I have had it before) If this happens just tell me and I will tell you how to fix it.
Poacher886
Thanks for the help, im a bit cautious about downloading d3d9 as i've recently spent god nows what getting rid of 'Delta Search' attached to some other download , i'll take a look. The Thread changes i've done to the pref / ini files. The rest you suggest i'll try if the former does'nt work. Thanks for your time, i'll feed back when i've tried. Edit, , is it the data folder that i drop the d3d9 file into? P.s, tell me i dont need to use the disk to run this game every time .....its like stepping back 10yrs Lol. M48A5
Try these suggestions: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/
Bean3613
I think you just drop it into the actual Fallout 3 folder itself. That is what it seems to be implying anyway. Your Fallout 3 files may be located in Documents/My games. By the way, if you do happen to have searchnu (unlikely) it is very easy to fix and will take seconds. Poacher886
Ok, buddy, thanks looks as though the d3d9 file worked!!!!!! I've entered the game and got to the character choosing part, but i dont have time to play right now ..anyway all looks good for now. I just hope i can find a 'no-disk-needed' solution, pane in the ass having to use a disk these days!
Purr4me
To get falout 3 GOTY version of the game, be it retail or steam down load, you install the whole game, both parts. you make a backup folder just encase steam is active to store just copies ot the DLC content only. once that's done your ready. uninstall falout 3. reinstall it but, do not install the DLC packages. they should all still be there anyways.what this does is place the Original game which is Fully compatable with any operating system. The DLC package installs the DRM garbagewhich infects the main engine and the GFWL packaging. Changint the graphics d3d9.dll from the default to steams overlay is no way to cure the bug caused by DRM problems ,and some machines have faild do that. ( 5360 wont load issue)<---that is the result of the DRM infection. NOTE: if the game is indeed retail? the second dvd contains sucur rom, a very nasty DRM package, and it not only effects the games, it effects al games and DVD equipment you own. very bad bug. it's built in to the second installer and the games own launcher. so be ware, even though you have this sort of majic bullit d3d9.dll fix !, your just fooling your self and still have the infections. there is not way for you to remove it other than using that cmpanies software to remove it.I scan al mods that have that code embeded into them, I don't even use those mods anymore.get rid of securRom data.reinstall only the basic game.use fomm built By quazzy and use his fake live .dll for GFWL.I really hate to burst some bubbles here but mr. fose is not going to stop securRom as that code is not part of GFWL.so fose people, pay attention. fose will not stop this bug. it never has. and your still running the drm control software that causes all the CTD's. kitty. Bean3613
No problem happy to help. There is a no disk solution. It has something to do with cracked games folder. Sorry, but I am not sure how it works and can't really help in that area.
Poacher886
Thanks chaps, Just to be clear, i have the disk version of GOTY. it is not steam connected Where im at right now: Both disks were installed and the stupid GFWL, which has enabled me to start the game (using the d3d9 fix). I tried uninstalling GFWL to see if it would work no that it has started, but no, it required me to load GFWL again. SO at present all seems fine.I found by short cutting the exe. file i can now start the game via a launcher with no disk needed!! great. So everything looks to be good except...... The idea of playing this game without a bevey of graphics / gameplay etc mods is simply unthinkable thus i need the 4gb patch however......it seems the 4gb patch does not work with GFWL !!!, but seeing how the game requires this to launch, i currently miffed as to how people are using the 4gb patch?? Thanks @purr4me, what i dont understand with you suggestion is, if i leave the DLC installed, and uinstall the main program, then re-install it, surely the DLC which you say contains the nasty stuff is still in the DLC that was left untouched?
