Bean3613
I don't know if this is the solution to your problem. But you can try. - Install GFWL client (link: http://www.xbox.com/de-DE/live/pc/downloadclient ) --> now you should be able to continue to the game after hitting "Play" in the FO3 Launcher- The steam version of FO3 GOTY is 1.5, however there's a up-to-date patch version 1.7 available via GFWL- Hit "LIVE" in the main menu of the game. After you logged in into your GFWL account, you should receive the message there's a game update available- Download and install the patch- Close Fallout 3, after the game was automatically restartet (do not start the game again at first!)- Go to the "...\steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 3 goty" folder- Move the files Fallout3.exe , Fallout3.exe.cat and Fallout3.exe.cfg to a destination of your choice (or simply delete them. If you're not sure, make a backup of these files)- In the same folder are the files Fallout3ng.exe , Fallout3ng.exe.cat and Fallout3ng.exe.cfg --> rename them.- Fallout3ng.exe > Fallout3.exe- Fallout3ng.exe.cat > Fallout3.exe.cat- Fallout3ng.exe.cfg > Fallout3.exe.cfg- Start the game- Check, if the patch was installed successfully. If it was not, just update via GFWL.- Enjoy! :)ATTENTION: If you use the steam function to "verify the integrity of your game cache" the GFWL patch will be overwritten. So take care you don't accidently do so. Tell me how it goes, and if it doesn't work I'll look into it further.
Purr4me
No, the DLC setup made By Inno setup program has in it instructions to deflate the new bug ridden launcher loaded with DRM software, it over writes the files in the main game directory. you keep the bsa's and the main files in the data directory only. Fallout 3's uninstaller removes Just the fallout 3 game data. before you reinstall it, Iwould have to think you would at least look in the game folder for left behind kunk files, Namly the second discs launcher which BTW, has a different CRC check sum than listed in the xml uninstall instructions so IT gets left behind. ya know, I can't think for every one or write an esay every time this problem comes up. Bben here, a moderator has in his signature a link to his help web site that has all these instruction well written out. we are just users here. I did try. I will assume most have the right frame of mind to compensate for the lack of "undoubtly long winded from me / explainations.". kinda gets boring after a while. I want to have fun too. the #2 disc was made way later than the #1 disc. the #1 disc is not going to have any information to uninstall the DLC in the first place. that includes the executables. that's all on you. there should be only yellow envelopes left in there, esm's and bsa's. no other files should remain. If so, remove them.kitty.
Poacher886
@Purr4me Thanks for your help. im no wizzard at this! I have followed your instructions and uninstalled FO3 main disc, removed the launchers for DLC left in the data file, so as mentioned just the master DLC bsa-esm files were left. I've re-installed the main FO3 disk, and it loads to the 'start-game' screen no probs....and without the d3d9 fix which i removed prior to installing. I've not tried to play yet as i want to change the thread core fixes to the ini file. Questions: 1. When at the loading screen if i choose settings and display, it lists what i think (bottom left corner) is my game version as 1.0.0.12 ? should this not be 1.7 or something as this was the final GOTY edition!, remember this is a disk version and has no connection with steam what so ever. It would seem, the game would have been patched to the latest 1.7 version via the second disc, or am i wrong here? 2. You mention using FOMM, but i would rather stick to NMM as im familiar with this, is there any other way around having GFWL installed ? 3. Im wanting to install the 4gb patch, but again it does'nt work with GFWL im told, any way around this? Thanks for your help
Bean3613
Have you tried what I suggested? Again I don't know how much it will help because I have never been in the situation.
Poacher886
Yea thanks bean, though i dont have the steam version of the game!, youe other instructions i'll follow once i've heard form purr4me, which is given a DRM free situation. Ok, i've spoken too soon, i patched this to 1.7 via the official site and its now patched to 1.7. made the recommended ini tweeks for thread optimisation, and decided to get into the game for a trial.....the intro sequence works i pick a name and so on then it crashes before getting into the game! Gee, if i'd known it was going to be this much grief, i would never have bought it ! @ Bean, I do not have the ng files - Fallout3ng.exe > Fallout3.exe- Fallout3ng.exe.cat > Fallout3.exe.cat- Fallout3ng.exe.cfg > Fallout3.exe.cfg My files are not in steam, they are in Programx86 / Bethesda softworks / Fallout3 Edited July 30, 2013 by Poacher886
M48A5
Poacher886, You have to go to the Bethesda website and download and install the 1.7 patch. You have to go to the GFWL website and download and install the latest version. You might as well get FOSE if you intend to mod the game: http://fose.silverlock.org/ this will also disable GFWL. bben's Fallout 3 Help Topics website: http://s1.zetaboards.com/bbenlibrary/topic/5045447/1/?x=0#post733767
Bean3613
Ah I see. It's always easier to buy through Steam now a days. Unfortunately this has gone beyond my knowledge and the others will be able to help you more than I will. Have a nice day!
M48A5
This: Programx86 / Bethesda softworks / Fallout3 is the first problem that should be corrected. Please see this posting: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/
Purr4me
Programx86 / Bethesda softworks / Fallout3 Wrong, system permissions in effect, OS DRM in effect as they say. Correct "Ok, i've spoken too soon, i patched this to 1.7 via the official site and its now patched to 1.7. made the recommended ini tweeks for thread optimisation." Incorrect "nd decided to get into the game for a trial.....the intro sequence works i pick a name and so on then it crashes before getting into the game!". display settings of the systems, not the game have to be done first. your main Operating diaplay settings, what are they, what Organic generic brand or type of driver is installed for 800x600, 10224 .768, and so on, that setting and driver version. set that first, your prefernce means absolotly nothing to the game needs. Use Fomm please. for get mass downloaders/installers. it has no place here. once the system is set, reboot it. now, open up fom and please just check the settings, and watch what it does, set the settings to it's highest. close fomm. I am trying to teach all of you here How to use these tools, please , don't waste my time. the launcher is not fomm, nor is it the system ,both use the system, both use the displat properties, but only one has real control over it and only IF that control is actuall availible.\ GFWL will remove that availability. understand? it's not what you see, it's what you don't see that matters. open the game launcher and now check it's settings? do they match the fomm settings? I need to know. reverse this proceedure. open the launcher first, set the graphics to max, advanced tab to max, all sliders set to max. close it. reopen it and see if they stick ?!!1 if they do not stick? then GFWL is active on that machine and must be turned off first. otherwise, the game will not run. if the hardware is of a nature not made to match the date of the engine requirments, Microsoft and the copnay drivers will. if this is the case, install them. then reinstall direct x data. rebot. go back to fomm, open the graphics center setting modual. did they stick? try and set them, are they greyed out now? I need to know these things. if they stick now, your ready for menu / in game screen settings to be changed. people, By default, this game "faullout 3 GOTY" any dam version will set the screen pixel size to 800x600 window no matter what you do. period. If you use a software screen manager other than the games software and the OS as ati has it., It will over rule the garbagge cloding up the load screen stuff. you must have all this graphics working and staying put before runninghthis game on an advance operating system windows 7 and 8 were not out when the game was published, nore is the codes for these systems written into the 1.7 patch. the only thing shared was Nvidia software ,that's graphics cards and drivers.I wait.kitty. Poacher886
Ok guys, i will have to work through this slowly, despite being into gaming since gaming began, and building my own rig's im weak on the software side, and will have to take this step by step. FYI my system specs are: ATI 7870 @ 1230/1325 (100% stable)8gb RamIntel i-760 @ 4.13 (100% stable)1920x1200 Res I did notice the game wanting to play in much lower res, until i changed it, oddly i changed it initially and as mentioned, it went back to lower res, i had to change it again for it to stick. Have a bit to do just now, thus bare with me, i'll get back once i've had time to work through suggestions. Thanks all
