tansyuduri
SO I started modding but whenever I go to create something new that needs to be viewed the screen is so dark I can barely see what I am doing. With level designing I can not see what I am doing at all! There has to be a way to light things up because I cannot believe people designed the game in pitch blackness. The question is... what is it?
LadyHonor
You need to add lights then lightmap your level. There are a lot of tutorials explaining how to do it. The one I like best for interior lighting is at http://bg2redux.student.utwente.nl/trac/wiki/TutorialLightmapping but Im not certain if it's still up. Lighting for exteriors is easier. If your atmosphere settings are good enough you really dont have to add any lights other than ambient and character lights for daylight levels. Night levels may require additional lights. I suggest getting your lighting like you want before adding a lot of models. Once you populate your levels running a lightmap depending on the level size can take a long time. Another thing, that tutorial says add 3 or 4 character lights. Dont add 4. Instead invest in a protractor, compass, and graph paper. Set 3 lights at 120, 240, and 360 (or 0 dpending on how you count it) degrees. Your character lighting will be perfectly uniform then. A character can only receive light from 3 or less lights. LadyHonor
Ack! That totally messed up. You are going to have to add lights to your level. There are lots of tutorials showing how to do it but I highly recommend that you get a compass, protractor, and graph paper to set character lights where they will cover your characters uniformly. Set them at 0 (or 360), 120, and 240 degrees. Use no more than 3 character lights. More than that will cause other lights to stop working. Exterior lighting is different than interior lighting. Atmosphere setting done correctly can lessen the necessity of additional lights. Try this link to help. Im not sure if it still works tho. http://bg2redux.student.utwente.nl/trac/wiki/TutorialLightmapping
mcgoy
I couldn't get either link to work - just a blank screen
LadyHonor
I think its shortening it or something. You can try doing a search for the site name. It's Baldur's Gate 2 redux wiki. I'm not sure if its still up tho. Since I dont have internet at home when I find a tutorial that i like i save it as a webpage on my laptop when im able to use wifi some where. So i've had that page for a while to use offline. There are other good tutorials for lighting tho. Thats just my favorite one for interiors. mcgoy
The list of results is.... long and I don't see anything resembling the links. I'll have to wait 3 days until my download quota refreshes - thought I would bookmark for future reference since it isn't the next thing that I want to work on.
