Your characters all exist in the same world

I've always dreamed of the ability to create multiple characters in the same world. For example, my Orc who is Harbinger of the Companions could head to Winterhold and say hi to my High Elf who's just joined the College.

I have a somewhat reasonable proposal for how this could be done: a program that could be run before launching Skyrim which could let you choose which character you wish to play as and then create a mod according to the progress made by your other characters. The mod would disable any quests that the other characters have completed and insert a copy of those characters as NPCs in a location fitting their quest status. While playing as my High Elf, I would not be able to progress in the Companions, Skjor and Kodlak would be gone, and my Orc character would be chilling in Jorvaskr. While playing as my Orc, I would not be able to progress in the College of Winterhold and my High Elf would be living in the Hall of Attainment and practicing spells in the Hall of the Elements. For this to make sense, It would probably require Alternate Start: Live Another Life, Random Alternate Start, or something similar.

How doable is this?

Probably not as doable as the several character swap ideas out there.

I made a thread that mentions the disabling/modifying of quests, and there's also this older, buried thread.

However, this thread is unique in suggesting an external patching program.

I love this idea!

It would be a way to customize your followers 100%. So you start a game as a female Thief/Archer, get her to a certain point and then park her in the Bannered Mare.

Start a new game as a Two-Handed heavy armor Orc, level up a ways, then park him at the bannered mare too.

Eventually, you'd have a team of 5 characters to go on quests with.

Looking at mods like Ultimate Follower Overhaul and Alternate actors, it seems doable.

the idea is perfect!

after i started downloading mods for the game,i made so many characters and did so many different things,i made armies and i killed so many useless npcs such as bandits and thalmors,i became the thane of many big cities,i finished so many quests,i ended the war between ulfric and tullios but after all of this i reallized there is nothing else to do so i had to say goodbye to my character and start from the begining! but with this mod there is no need for such a thing because even if i start from the begining i always can feel the changes i've made with my previous character and enjoy it!

Why not just make your custom character an npc then use the mod that lets you control w/e person you cast it on, and then your character actually becomes a follower of w/e you controlled?

just make sure you don't get your main character killed... or well bad things will happen.

Literally every idea on this thread is golden. I don't like that my sneaky assassin is also the harbinger and arch mage. It doesn't make much sense and isn't very lore friendly.

Having multiple accounts in the same world makes your main Dovahkiin seem more realistic than some guy who can do literally everything and be a good and evil character at the same time.
