Georgiegril, thank you for caring. nmm 34 downloaded using the site. 45.5 downloaded using the site. I stopped playing skyrim for about a year an that is why there is such a difference between 34 and 45.5

as for the problems I am facing it looks like registry problems to me. meaning I can download mods once but after that they don't show up in the mod manager list and I get a message that tells me they were deleted without being deactivated. for example: My unp configuration package was working but it was not showing up in the list. other mods were not working at all. I found out that this has been an issue in the past but only after I had already downloaded the 45.5 nmm. I hope that is enough information to at least get things rolling.

34 nmm to 45.5 nmm both downloaded from the nexus site. the reason for the difference is I stopped playing skyrim for that long.

what I am seeing I would describe as a registry issue. I download from nexus, only, using nmm to do so. work with the best and you get the best results. my steam account crashed and because the account crashed I could not deactivate or delete the mods involved. because it used to be a simple task to reload games I felt I could do so. I was wrong. On Monday I began to reload mods and found that my mod manager was way out of date. I tried to upgrade and had two mod managers for a while 34 and 45.5 I deleted 34 not knowing that was the wrong thing to do but also not having any warning that it was the wrong thing to do. I then began having all kinds of trouble because of what looks like a registry problem. mods that I know I have deleted using the 45.5 nmm are still activated. mods that I know I downloaded using the feature to download using nmm are not showing up in my list. I went in and deleted the files using the Bethesda data file thing as a last resort. but now if I try and reload a mod that I had in my computer it will not show up in the list and therefore I cannot activate it or delete it because I get a message that explains that the mod was deleted without being deactivated and the mod manager will restore the mod. that is pretty much where I am with this mess.

Well, it seems to me that there could be a few things going on.

Honestly, if you haven't played for a year and are trying to start up again, I think you will run into a bunch of problems trying to play the same character/save games. There were a couple of patches in that time, and they caused a lot of people to have to start over. Plus, the message about deleting files without deactivating them sounds to me like you accidentally deleted your mods when you were updating (or did a download/install over NMM, instead of using the update feature, maybe?) , in which case starting over with a clean game/new character probably is your only choice, unless you can successfully restore your system to a time before you updated NMM

So IMO the easiest way to fix your game in order to be able to actually would be to follow the STEP Guide's Revert to vanilla Skyrim instructions, then rebuild your game, with the new versions of your mods (and there have been a bunch of really awesome additions to the mod world in the last year as well, so you might want to explore a bit.).

If you are quite attached to your character from a year ago, can't bear the thought of starting new and are willing to devote a lot of hours, maybe days, attempting to fix things: (well, you could get lucky and the first thing you try might work. I tend toward worse-case scenario planning.)

You might try:

1. Go to steam, get all the updates. Verify yoru cache, then open the game once in steam (this will rewrite your .ini files, so if you have changes you need to remember, make a backup copy of them first.) This will also reset your option to what Steam thinks you should have, so adjust them now, if you have different ideas. Then, put steam in offline mode. GO to your pref.ini file (the one in mydocuments\mygames\skyrim) and make sure you have

[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1

2. Right click on NMM.exe, find "run as administrator" and click (if you don't have windows 7, you might need to right click and then click on properties, then security)

Do the same with steam.exe, skyrim.exe, skse.exe, BOSS.exe.

3. Find your mods folder (it should be somewhere like C:\\Games\Mods\Skyrim. Open it up, it should be filled with your zip files (.7z or .rar). If it is empty, you will need to figure out where those mods were actually downloaded. You could search for .rar or .7z in you computer, then when you find one that is a skyrim, read the path to find the folder. If it is not the expected mods folder, then copy/paste all of them into the mods folder.

If you can't find them at all, then somehow you deleted them and you will probably have to start over with a new character/games and new installations of mods.

4. Open up NMM, go to the tools icon on the top, click the Skyrim tab. The first line says choose where you would like to store your skyrim mods . Make sure it is pointed to the correct path/folder that you now have verified your mods are.

5. Click on the folder icon on the NMM toolbar. Click "Open NMM Mods folder" Click that...your zipped mods should now appear. If they don't check the file path again in step 4.

6. Now go to your Skyrim data file. Open it up, and look if all your all mods are there. If they are, then try starting the game. If they are not, check the NMM tools/skyrim tab again, look at the line that says Skyrim Directory. It should have a path like this:c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim. If it is pointing somewhere else, correct the path to the steamapps/common/skyrim folder.

If there are no files in your data folder, you could try re-activating them via NMM, but if your mods have disappeared from the data folder and the Mods folders, I think you will need to start over with a new character/installation of mods.

If none of this helps, and you still don't want to give up, you might try a system restore from before the time you updated NMM. If you can get that, then you might try making a copy of your mods folder and your data folder, then installing the NMM update. Then if, for siome reason your mods/data files are dmaged, you can simply replace them with the copies.

Those are my only ideas. Maybe someone else will have something....

wow thanks. unfortunately I don't have a complete listing of all of the mods I had. so as I am looking over the revert to vanilla skyrim I'm already seeing a problem. Funny but that used to be a simple as deleting the game and reloading it. now reloading a game is a two day process. I'm not laughing.

Well, you're really helped me out of a jam thanks<< I really do mean that.

In Steam, click "Verify integrity of game cache..." under the Local Files tab in Skyrim's Properties window. This will do a CRC check on every single file in the Skyrim directory and download any files that are corrupted or missing. It may take a while depending on your internet speed. << where do I find this?
