dunmer_jediknight
interesting discussion you have started here Peregrine ^_^ . I have to agree that the ban was a wast of time but you have to remember how the government works. Rarely do they take the easy and usealy logical way with, lets say a stricter list on what it takes to own a gun of any type. Why was the ban even passed and not a more useful law passed ? you ask? Because it was more flashy and it got the presses attention, and when you are in the press passing a ban that helps take a "evil weapon" off the streets to help portect the outguned police (yea right <_< ) you get elected for another term.So maybe it is not statistics that should be looked at, or even put up for disscusion but maybe we should be looking at the flaws in our socity and try to fix that, not an easy thing and not a thing that can be fixed with a quick ban or laws but with reforms and a way of bettering the way of life for everyone, maybe then we will see a decline in vilolent crimes. Coolhandgoose
Well, travelling by air is safer...and it's better for the enviroment too. If only we had more airports . a 747 flight from Vancouver to Beijing is about 14 hours, and burns 400,000 lbs of fuel. A Cessna 172 burns 8 gallons of fuel per hour. I don't think airplanes are doing stellar work for the environment. :bleh: On topic: Are they allowing the Ak47's to be in full auto mode. I think they sell them in Canada but are only allowed (built) in semi auto only.

I think they sell them in Canada but are only allowed (built) in semi auto only.No. Despite what the anti-gun propaganda wants you to believe, the recently-expired ban had nothing to do with fully automatic weapons. Those have been restricted and licensed since 1934, and since 1986, no newly manufactured ones can be sold to private citizens. So yes, you could get a pre-1986 AK-47, but it would cost you a few thousand dollars minimum, and you'd have to get a special license and register with the government. But you could do that even when the AWB was in effect.

eviljim
I'm not entirely sure what the big deal is with the whole gun thing. I don't like guns myself but I still have my yearnings to kill. I, however, prefer knives... more up close and personal ^_^ Besides, I'd like to see someone stroll down the street unnoticed with a friggin ak47 strapped to their back. Now if someone had 2 pistols and a shitload of ammo in their jacket/bag, they'd be practically invisible (except for the crazed look of KILLKILLKILLREDRUM). shortened version of post = if someone legally purchases one of these things they aren't likely to commit a crime with it (too much trouble and costs too much to waste) so I don't see a problem with them being legal. arkgamer1
Quick question: Now that the ban is up, can I run out to the store and buy an m60? That sounds like fun. I'd sit on my front porch and fire randomly into the air every few seconds. Mabye shoot the Mormans that come by.

An M60 is a fully automatic weapon, and therefore heavily restricted since 1934 (requires special license and registration with the government), and was not affected by the ban at all. ImmortalSnafu
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.Arguably, bearing arms is not necessary in our times since we have police to keep us safe.
