Shidentora
Now, many of us remember the good old FO/FO2 architecture, both from the games and from the works of art, right? Now, this wizzard Arcoolka has a marvelous WIP:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/48095/? There are modding resources of this kind as well. So, lemme ask you: Did anyone release yet a buildings/ruins replacer of this kind or the like?Just imagine - wouldn't THAT be absolutely perfect? TrickyVein
You run into trouble when using replacers that affect 100s or even 1000s of references if they are not close to within the dimensions of the original(s); even a flat surface or ledge that seems innocuous enough on the side of a building may serve some functional purpose or be used in a specific way, like to cover up seaming or serve as a place to put a billboard, light fixture or other modular piece; if these are not preserved then it becomes obvious where the two styles clash. Even so, I've thought about doing this as a quick and cheap way to inject a whole lot of new and 'classic' looking content into the game. It's just that you're also dealing with regenerating LOD object data for most or all of the worldpaces and it may end up being more trouble than it's worth. Well, good sir, I really do think it would definitely be worth an effort. If I was a modder, I'd do it myself - but I'm not. I'm a languages expert. To encourage you and your colleagues modders, I'd suggest you to have a look at the FO3 desert (that's right - DESERT). The ground turned to sand. Beautifull. I spent many hours playing my FO3 with this mod and almost found no mistakes. Here's the link: http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11459 And another one, which I didn't try out: http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/11430 I can't imagine my FO3 without this anymore. Now, if there was a buildings and ruins replacer, such as the arcoolka's WIP...It would be just WOW. Just WOWish WOOOW! It would bring the SOUL of the Classic back, for the kids gamers and anyone else who'd like to see, what the FO is about, IMHO. Shidentora
But what am I saying, you created a magnificent architecture resource. Now, if someone would just create an architecture pack... AND a Sandcrete. That would be fantastic. Kudos to you.
TrickyVein
OK. Well, seeing as this is all a matter of personal taste, I think the Mojave looks well enough like the desert that it is in RL. It's not a dune field like the Sahara, which is what those mods make the capital wasteland look like. It's very rocky and covered in desert pavement. But I think I can speak for everyone when I say that Obsidian should have made more of an effort to create new assets that captured the style of Vegas and West coast 'streamlined' or googie architecture (and they did, mostly for what mattered) - anything that would have set their game apart from Bethesda's art direction for DC. I mean, it gets pretty tired when you see the same tiles being used again and again that are five years old and obviously belong back on the East coast. Blame the truncated development cycle, whatever. I really enjoyed creating those pieces and there are many more that could be adapted to the modern (lol) engine. If I wasn't busy with another project right now I'd probably start working on something else.
Shidentora
Oh, I aggree that Mojave is OK as it is. It's just that I love desert in my FO games, even if in DC:) It's the architecture that so many ppl are aparently sighing about. Seeing the classic stuf like the stuff from the modding resources would mean really something to our hearts. Something... Big... You seem to be a Fallout soul, so you probably understand.
