Rules regarding providing updated releases of abandoned or unfinished mods.

I've been tinkering with the Combat Rifle Overhaul, I've taken a liking to the mod, but it's got a few issues with bugs and spelling errors, and the author seems to have dropped it and vanished. I've been working on overhauling it for personal use, fixing the spelling errors, fixing critical bugs, overhauling the level lists, and creating presets to appear in the world; though it's not perfect and I don't know how to fix everything - but that's not what I'm asking about right now. I'm wondering what the rules are about uploading an improved version to the Nexus without permission, predominantly because I cannot get a hold of the original artist.

Based on the permissions posted on that page, you cannot use any of the original author's assets without permission. If you can't reach them, assume it's a "no".

 

An alternative you could consider is making a patch that requires the original mod?

That's kinda what I planned to do anyway, keep the original mod as a requirement and just have mine loaded ontop. I considered a standalone version but that's definitely not good to do without permission.
