Installed mods not worling

I have a number of mods which are suddenly not working anymore.

I'm honestly not sure what happened.

I played the game last time about 2-3 weeks ago, and have not played it since.

When I decided to play the game today, all my savegames and all my progress was just gone, as if I had never played the game before.

Apparently as a result of this I now have a number of mods which was working fine before, which are not working anymore.

I have tried to download and reinstall the mods, but nothing seems to help.

Its as if the mods are suddenly no longer installed.

I have tried everything I can think of, short of deleting the whole game and all mods and reinstalling it all from scratch.

Some of them are animation mods, but most are armor/clothing mods.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do?

Have you checked your data folder to see if the mod data was there? What about your saves? Have you looked for them in your files? Do you still have a working Creation Kit??

Verify that your mod data is being added to your game when you activate them in NMM (if that's what you use). Also, run the game through the Skyrim launcher and make sure your "data" tab shows that you have the .esp's you got from your mods, and that they are 'checked'.

What folder should I look in for the mod data?

I do use NMM, and all installed mods are listed as active in the "plugins" tab on it.

The "data files" option on the Skyrim Launcher are grayed out, so I cannot click on it at all, cant remember if it has been like that before or not.

After asking on the Skyrim forums, I checked the saves folder, all files there are gone, nobody else has access to my computer as I live alone.

And what is this Creation Kit?

There was a recent problem with NMM where files could not be downloaded with it,

It would try to connect to a server but could not get a connection, could this be related?

Okay. Buncha stuff to say:

When you use NMM, and you can't get it to download, it means:

1) The server you're trying to use is down, and you should use one from a different location, like Seatle, or Salt Lake City 3 or 4, for example.

or

2) The Nexus itself is having server issues of it's own, and you'd be lucky to get back on right away if you "x-ed out", and looked the site up again.

The files I speak of are located in your computer files (C:). The location is:

C:\program files\steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\data\

You should see your .esp files at the bottom somewhere in your 'data' file. If you use texture mods, like armor, or prettier faces, stuff like that, you'll see more information in your 'meshes' and 'textures' files. Every mod has it's own path, but most of them end up being installed right into your data folder. I could tell you about a hundred different things about installing, and packaging mods, and so on, but I'll try to keep it short.

Creation Kit is a modders tool. If you're asking, then you didn't download it from Steam, so unless you plan learning how to mod (like I did), don't worry about it. I was just asking because if you had it, and now you suddenly don't, I'd have to give you different instructions.

The problem with the NMM was that it was not possible to DL anything with NMM.

It was posted here:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1051710-cant-download-a-mod-using-nmm/

I checked the Data folder and as fr as I can see there are .esp files there for all installed mods, yet some of them are still not working.

For one several armors and jewelry that should be available for crafting are not available.

According to the descriptions of the mods themselves, there should be a "Misc" category when doing smithing, that category is missing and all I see are the standard stuff.

I have never done any modding myself, so you can overlook that.

There is one more detail, I'm not sure if this is related to modding or is part of the game itself.

I have all the DLC packs for the game, Dawnguard, Dragonborn and hi res textures.

I just got my first home in Whiterun, now las time I played when decorating, I could choose between an alchemy lab and a children's room as one of the "decorations".

I could not have both it was either or, but this time around the children's room was not available, only the alchemy lab.

I thought that was part of the game not a mod?

Seems this problem is larger than I first thought.

After posting about the lost savegames on the Skyrim forums, someone there told me about a way to get back the savegames, and it worked.

However, it seems as if the installed DLC packs for my game are now missing, and I suspect that has something to do with my mods not working as well.

You're looking at a huge failure of NMM. When you click the NMM, it does open, right? Things like this are the reason I switched to MO. Here's a guide. Have you tried reinstalling NMM? If you don't have the option to add a children's bedroom, then Hearthfire is not being read. There are 3 things you can try:

1) Reinstall NMM, and try it again (after making sure all mods are in there)

2) Begin manually installing mods, instead of using NMM

3) Use MO

*4) Last resort: Reinstall Skyrim

MO is more complicated than NMM, and mods are installed in a slightly different way, but once you've figured it out, it will become your very best friend, If that's what you want to use, I'll help with any problems you have with it, or anything you don't understand. I love MO!

I posted on the skyrim forums about the missing savegames.

Allot of good help to be had there actually.

Nobody seems to have any clue as to why my savegames went missing, but at least I did get them back.

The end result was that I am now reinstalling Skyrim.

I have no problem with staring NMM.

It starts just fine and shows the list of mods I have.

But I have tried to update and deactivate then reactivate all my mods several times with no result.

If I were to reinstall NMM what were to happen with the list of mods I have?

As you know NMM shows a list of mods that are installed and which are active or not.

I would assume that this list would be gone if I reinstall?

I know the mods will still be there, but I suspect I would no longer have the list that shows which are installed and which are active or not.

If I were to switch to MO instead, what would I do about all the mods I have?

I expect to have to reinstall then all again since I'm reinstalling Skyrim, but would hate to have to download them all again as well?

Skyrim is actually the only game in which I have ever used mods to this extent.

I have used a few mods in a couple other games, but Skyrim is really the only game where I feel that the mods are worthwhile using.
