I aimed first for nVamp because I heard it ensures good compatibility with a useful range of mods, e.g. FOOK, IWS, XFO, PN. I experienced a bit of flakiness and occasional crashes, so I decided to look at the load order. Apart from everything XFO being enabled (I imagine you're meant to pick and choose the difficulty you want), I noticed nVamp didn't appear at all in the load order, despite being installed and activated.
