How old is the drive? After 2-3 years of heavy use it's usually a good idea to start looking into getting a new one unless you went for one of the more reliable brands. For awhile I had a Maxtor 20gb drive that wasn't detecting at boot because of a faulty power connection, often requiring that the computer spend several minutes warming up before that connection was made... Unless your drive is really new, depending on the manufacturer and the warranty, you might not be able to get any sort of replacement.

Western Digital seems to be fairly good in the customer service department, so might want to take some time to look over their RMA pollicy. Naturally I would wipe the drive clean (full wipe, 1's and 0's)before sending it back to them.

it is fairly new, i have only had it since october so my warranty is still good...

i know it isnt the power connector, because i have each hdd on its own cord connected to the psu
