Game freezes every five minutes

I've no mods installed, no DLC, no packs, no nothing. just the game, not the Steam version either, and for some reason it crashes almost literally every fives minutes. I tried starting a new game to see if the save was corrupt and no luck. I got maybe an extra minute or two before the freeze. I've tried lowering the graphics settings to minimum, reinstalling the entire game, I tried the Mission Mojave mod (I think that's what it's called) but that ended up causing the game to crash immediately after launching.

 

This is really pissing me off, because the computer I and my boyfriend have I built myself, but the game runs perfectly fine on my boyfriend's. He's been playing over 30 hours so far, which I know is kind of small in comparison to the scope of this game, but in comparison to every single game I've started, it's a lot. I've never been able to pass more than a couple of hours, the farthest I got in the main quest was Novac, where I started doing Come Fly With Me. Does anyone out there have anything I could try to get this to work? Our computer's specs are nearly identical and we've pretty much downloaded the exact same software onto the computers as well, for instance CCleaner, Defraggler, those kinds of things. I've even tried pirating the game to see if maybe my disc was messed or something, I don't know. I'm desperate! And I've already bought the game twice so I didn't feel too bad about it. Results were the same though. I don't know what I expected to change. If anything a pirated copy would just be more unstable. Short of buying a third copy on Steam, I'm at a loss of what to do, and I'm really disinclined to purchase this game on steam seeing how many threads there are with people having the same kind of problems I'm having.

 

Oh and we're both using Windows 8.

So tell me...you say you bought a disk. Did you register your copy through Steam?
