Everthing goes dead on occassion

Not sure what exactly it is, but every so often I find myself starting up the game, and I can't do much of anything. I can still move around, but the Activate key doesn't let me talk to people or open containers and quicksave/quickload don't work. I'm not sure what's doing this, but it happens when I try to add new mods.

 

I'm running an awful lot of mods to begin with, so something might be getting broken from the sheer number, as if I uncheck an older mod and leave the newer one checked, most of the time the problem goes away.
