Thieves and Armour

I have a Level 2 Thief who im currently roaming Morrowind with and I was wondering if there are any experts out there that could help me with the issue of Armour.

Basically, I've always assumed a Thief wouldn't wear much armour as he'd need to be quick and speedy when stealing and moving undetected. I have all the normal Thief characteristics and have speciality in Unarmoured and Light Armour.

When my thief is wearing Light armour he looks silly, too heavy and full of weight. I prefer his look when unarmoured and just wearing an expensive shirt and pants ect.

However, is it better for a thief to wear light armour or is it better to develop your unarmoured skill as a thief will often get into trouble as Ive found.

Im really just looking for experienced players opinions.

Also, does the amount of stuff your carrying effect your speed when running. Ive not really noticed the difference myself but then ive got too much stuff on me that I dont want to get rid off.

depends on how much trouble you plan on getting into ^_^ . if you can handle the little bit of extra weight then light armor can be excellent. in fact there is an excellent piece of light armor (cuirass of saviours hide) that's pretty good for eluding those magic users you pilfer from (it has %60 magic resistance)

yes it makes a big difference. especially at low level since your strength is so low. the more you carry the more weighted down you are, just like in real life.

sidenote: being as a stealing from some people can be kinda dangerous i'd recommend getting your hands on a few amulets

- divine intervention

- almsivi intervention

- mark

- recall

they'll be incredibly useful for quick getaways and since they're enchanted items you won't have to be trained in that magic area to use it effectively.

I would suggest developing the Light Armor skill. Eventaully you'll run into some sort of melee combat and you'll probably want to have some basic protection against whatever is wailing on you while you cast a spell to escape. I have a level 50 thief and all he has is a set of boiled netch leather, just enough so that he has some form of protection.

I would also suggest using illusion. It's a great magic school to utilize because the magic compliments the thief class very well. Good luck.

My character is really skilled in Unarmoured because I was always too lazy to find some armour. Right now his armour rating (without wearing any actual armour) is 13. I'm only level 9 so its not very high, but it does me good for now. So either start training your Unarmoured or light armour.
