Mod Manager

I've been looking through the DLC for a mod manager. The only one I found was a MM for packaging mods in zip files and what not for distribution to TES nexus. I need a mod manager that will unpack and install the mods I download into the data files of Oblivion. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

I also need to know how to completely remove mods that I've downloaded off my computer. And I need a 7zip file. the one I for some reason I can't get to load on my computer. it's not compatible with windows Vista. Thanks again!!!

I would like to see an animated alchemy set when its setting on a table or whatever. that would be awesome. if it doesn't already exist.

Ok maybe I'm not being clear as to what I'm looking for. I need this http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3867. I need a mod PLUGIN manager. This one is for Morrowind and works great but i need one for Oblivion.

I might be able to do it on my own if someone could tell me how to find Oblivion\Data\

OBMM does handle .esp plugins only as well as their load order.

But if you only have just a few plugin-only mods, then why not use what comes with the game? Your Oblivion Launcher has a "Data Files" button on it that allows you to place checkmarks beside the plugins that you drop in the Oblivion Data folder.

And if you do not know where your "Data" folder is located, right-click on your Oblivion icon and select "Properties" and the folder path will reveal where it is installed. The Default location is C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\*

If you plan to use mods and are completely unfamiliar with this process, I STRONGLY recommend you read the Oblivion Mods FAQ. It will save you much headache and also reduce the need to post topics looking for answers already covered in that article.

Maybe I'm just stupid but when I open the OBMM it says I'm running as a limited user and that most of OBMM's functionality will be unavailable. I have read the READ ME fill that came with the OBMM but I can't find out how to get the thing to install the files. I think it's stupid that people use 7zip file when uploading files. The 7zip prog. isn't compatible with windows Vista. that's another problem I'm having.

Okay! This is pathetic. I can't even get a legitimate answer on how to install MODs. I try everything I can I even read the Read Me files... I can't figure it out so screw it... I'll just play the game it was meant to be played.... Without Mods!!!! Thanks for nothing... All I wanted was a straight answer....

What you asked for was precisely what you got. OBMM is the mod manager the vast majority of modders use. We do expect you to actually read the answers and make some attempt to follow through yourself. We Cannot do it for you, as we are not sitting in front of your computer. You must know, or be willing to learn, a little bit about the file structure of a computer - not much though, just where Oblivion likes to put things and how to find them. And maybe how to get it to put them somewhere else (Vista)

What you should have asked for was help in installing mods. Then given a complete description of the problem you are having.

However, to use mods, No matter whether you use OBMM or not, you MUST be logged in as an administrator.

This is not a Mods or Oblivion thing, but a windows thing. Also, If you are using Vista:

Vista Problems :wallbash:

If you have downloaded and installed a mod, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game And you are running Vista, you have run into a security feature of Vista called User Account Control. Or more simply, UAC.

Alternate Install Directory

If you install your Elder Scrolls game into any directory OTHER than the default, none of these problems occur. Thus, you can bypass the Vista security issues by installing the game onto another hard drive or into a new directory that is not located withing the "Program Files" root directory (such as "C:\Games").

Run as Admin

Another way to fix it is to right-click the ".exe" file and click properties, then check "Run as administrator". Then click OK. Do this for both the "oblivion.exe" and TESConstructionSet.exe", and any programs you are using that copies files to protected directories (such as WinRAR, 7z, or WinZip).

Disable UAC

Windows Vista users who are fairly confident in the security of their computers might also consider disabling UAC altogether. This will allow all programs writing privileges to the Program Files directory. Although this obviously creates a state of decreased security for your PC, it is a very helpful one-size-fits-all solution to a number of compatibility issues with the Vista OS.

Look here for instructions on how to turn UAC off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/

Of these, solution #1 is STRONGLY PREFERRED. Solutions 2 and 3 (running as admin and disabling UAC) remove important safety features of the OS. In contrast, installing Oblivion elsewhere resolves the problems with Oblivion without reducing your overall security.

Wiki entry on installing Oblivion in Vista: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Windows_Vista

Note that unless you opt to reinstall the game in a different location (option 1) when you start trying to make your own mods using the construction set, you will run into these problems again.

As for a zip program, I recommend FREE 7-zip, available on tesnexus, here:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579

And it does work in Vista for many other people.

Again, to install stuff in Vista, you MUST be logged in as an administrator or it won't work.

If you want to try installing mods without the Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM)

I have a set of help files for people new to mods. They include downloading, extracting (unzipping) installing and activating mods. I have included a sample mod to practice on and instructions for installing and using 7-zip. If you are interested, click on the highlighted link below to be taken to the site where they are kept. I recommend starting with #1 and working your way through them.

Finally!!! Some one I can understand. Thanks bben46 for the helpful tips. I've been banging my head, trying everything I can and using what moderate computer knowledge I have to get the MODs to install and play in the game... You know what you're talking about and are easy to comprehend. I will try all of your advise until I find what best suits me. Again, thanks a lot bben46!!!
