Is this card a good choice?

Recommended Posts

And by good choice I mean suitable for my specs without causing problems, and for a low price? I ask because i'm fairly ignorant when it comes to IT knowledge and need someone to confirm i'm making the right choice and not mess anything up by installing a graphics card that isn't made for my system.

My Specs (if I left anything out please tell me)

System - Acer Aspire X3450 x64-based PC

Processor - AMD Athlon II X4 645 Processor, 3100 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

6gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4250, 256.00 MB
Resolution - 1920 x 1080 x 60 hertz
And here is one I spotted that looks to be a decent improvement, not the best but good for the money...I think.

Well, it's several times better than your current HD 4250, which I'm sure you already know. The extra GB of VRAM doesn't really help much, since I doubt the card would run anything requiring more than 1GB, but the extra GB doesn't seem to have increased the price, so it doesn't hurt.

Your RAM and CPU seems to be a bit higher end than the HD 6570, but not by much. It's a pretty good match.

Your PSU is most likely a low-end 300-350w model, so that could potentially be a problem.

It appears to be quite a good choice for the price. I'd expect medium in modern games or low in graphically intensive ones (like Metro LL), assuming your PSU holds up.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't want to be misleading.

You have a reasonably modern CPU and should try to get a proper card such as a 7750.

Anything AMD below ?750 and NV below ?50 is "slot fillers" with focus on working at all, not performance.

HD7750 will cost more (I think 70 pounds or so? Your retailer only seems to carry long obsolete products), but it's more than worth it. For less than 1.5x the price, you'll get more than 2x the performance, all in a modern product, not a 3 year old one, and one in the lower range of the performance-oriented products. Its 28nm chip still has low enough power draw for you.

Here's one in UK, note it's the proper 1GB GDDR5 version (which is better than the 2GB DDR3).

In short, if you can't add another 22 pounds, wait till you can to upgrade.

Awesome, i've bookmarked this link and will go with that one then. The option I posted was an example of what I thought would be in my price range so i'm happy to know I can get one this good, thanks for the link! :)
