DefKnot
After updating fallout 3 with the 1.4.0.6_US_English patch, music in the title screen as well as playing in the background while exploring has started suffering from a pretty annoying stutter. The game generally runs at a consistent 60 fps for me, so it's not performance related, and while I tried increasing iAudioCacheSize to 4096 nothing changed. Searching the forum for similar problems hasn't been too successful either as most other audio issues apparently happen with radio music, which oddly enough is fine for me. Aside from this flaw, nothing else in my install seems broken in either audio or performance. Any ideas what could be causing this?
phoneyLogic
The default cache size for backround audio is 256 kb.Found in Fallout.ini (under iAudioCacheSize) -> iMaxSizeForCachedSound=256But, that should be quite enough…
DefKnot
Yeah, but that was the only option I could think of off the top of my head. I tried re-installing the game, and for some reason even without patching it the audio stutter is still there (I chose to keep saved games when I uninstalled; does that also maintain local files like patches and such?). I thought maybe my audio drivers were screwy (though I don't know how that could be without effecting pretty much every other sound in the game), but when I open the audio files for the main menu/etc in windows explorer they play fine (through winamp). I am so far quite confused.
phoneyLogic
the sound problems at f3 are quiet confusing have a look here - try the method suggested at post 27 hope it helps
DefKnot
Thanks, I'll try that, but at the moment I'm actually going through technical support via e-mail. I'll definitely post back to let anyone else know what the issues are when I (tech support) figures them out.
DefKnot
Ok, I figured out the problem and feel kind of dumb. Long story short, I did not realize that I already had a codec pack installed when I installed the Collective community codec pack, and the overlapping programs apparently made playing whichever audio types the title/aesthetic music are stutter (only in fallout 3, i guess). I uninstalled both packs and reinstalled the CCCP, and as of now the stutter is gone. Just thought I'd update everyone in case anyone has this problem in particular. Thanks for the help,Andy C.
