Hra Krak
ok, I have downloaded some complex stuff and its only my second day using mods.I have successfully done two, just to see how hard it could be. That was all of yesterday.I`m using OMM like I was told to.Today with some good advice I took a body mod called Gothic Breton and all the extra stuff, eyes that have lashes and race fix.I havnt got them to work and I have no clue as to why except, possibly the instruction to remove all game save. Is this really neccessary? Really? And when thats not it I have no character saves....ouch. Save back up ? I really dont have any space left right now so, Can anyone tell me how important removal of save games is? Reassure me cos I am only into my second day of this and I is a little overwhelmed but determined to succeed. I isnt stopping now I`ve started. I will Breton Goth proper. Eventually. sooner with some advice/assurance/instruction. this is a great site by the way..... So cheers peeps to those that have helped so much so far can we get the goal intended? And wow to maple leaf cottage.....georgous. :thanks: :whistling: I am playing with load order right now......you never know.....breton goth in omm doesnt show in left hand pane when I activate it.......normal? dezdimona
ok,always add one mod at a time and make sure it works. Some mods require other mods to function properly,is that mod one of them. You need a clean save to make it work if thats what it calls for...ie: disable all mods, go in game, save your game( no mods added). Then add your new mod useing OBMM.Watch for conflicts as sometimes files are overwritten. activate the mod.
Hra Krak
ok, trying it now, thanks. Nope, thats not it. Vannilla has no eyelashes?I have eyelashes? but not the Gothic mod. Here, you see what I am saying? I think aswell it says its complete aswell, which would mean nothing else required. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19733 I am gonna try something whilst I re-download it to see if its the data corrupt trhing. Nope, tried it on its own, thats a no too. Am I being a complete...wotsit? Do I need a body kit? Before I lay this out? I know I am getting something wrong cos, its my second day.... meh. Maigrets
It's all OK. We'll sort it out. Make sure you read everything I sent via PM very carefully. Especially the mods FAQ Pinned at the forum link I sent you. Since you asked here...... I wonder where you got the idea about removing games saves? There is no need to remove saves and no need to make a clean save for my race mod.Where I have mentioned in my readme about save games removed, it means that the previous version of my mod had two save games for people to use. I didn't include them in the current file. If you are running out of room, ie hard drive space you're going to have a problem with mods. Some of them are very big when extracted. Also, if you don't have a lot of space and have a CD/DVD burner back up any mods you download on discs, so you always have them at hand if you need to re-install for any reason. Gothic Breton should show in the left side of OBMM unless you have installed it incorrectly. This screen shows what it should look like. Click to enlarge the screen shot. Gothic Breton is highlighted. You'll see I haven't got the Custom race fix ticked because I use another mod. I just haven't removed the cutom fix esp. When I extract most mods from their downloaded files I always make a new folder somewhere eg Desktop. Extract all the files into that folder. Read the readme thoroughly and then copy or cut and paste the files to your Oblivion Data folder. If you are asked to overwrite, click yes. It usually means you already have a texture folder for example. Then you can either activate it in the game launcher or in OBMM. Some mods come in OMOD and other formats and you must use OBMM to activate them as you can see in the right pane of OBMM. But, that is something you don't need to worry about at the moment. Ok, space issues are because I have friends who put games on my pc for me, they say, Hey! youll love this. And then when I attempt to tidy I usually cannot find the core file of the gane and remove the short-cut instead. File discipline go`s out the window when other people do stuff for you. I am sorting this out as I go along. Downloads, zip files and unzipping I struggle with but I have managed it a couple of times and I have maple cottage so I must have done something right. Sometimes its just that I dont understand the terminology of where you want me to put stuff. I have owned a pc for months not years. That may be why I am struggling. Last night drunken it house mate sat with me and we put eyecandy into the game and I saw what he did, and I understood what he did, but I didnt relate the instructions to the files involved. Its not the instruction itself, its the names of things. its like speaking half a language and not having a dictionary for the rest. take from A and put in B. Open B and take out C. What you want from C goes in F and then return to D and activate E. I get " take from and put in open and take out what you want from goes in and then return to and activate". Thats the best way I can explain it. Its my lack of knowledge not your instruction. Like the remove save thing. I thought you meant my saves. So I have learnt that I move the zip file to my desktop. And I think my drunk friend opened it and moved it to the omm ( I am talking the female body mod) core file as instructed. We read that bit and only he knew where to put it as I didnt understand what the name of the file meant. I knew it was a file but not what or where I would find it. Thats not something you nice peeps can help me with. I have to know what files you are refferring to and where they are on my computer. Which I am learning slowly. It is worth saying that there are alot of different instructions for different mods and what works for one doesnt work for another and that does make the learning process more of a challenge. Maple cottage for instance, was relatively easy. I did it by accident using the zip file and the open archive in OMM create option. That worked more by chance than anything else. Then I did the same for the fix file. Eyecandy female body mod was a whole different ball game. an I will read all instructions and follow them carefully. And if anyone ever wants to learn to juggle or draw just give me a shout and I can be the one going," jeez! Whats wrong with this guy??" Thanks again for the assists :thanks:
Maigrets
I understand completely about seeing it done versus reading about it. I'm a bit that way as well. Plus it doesn't help when we are on opposite sides of the globe. I can't show you what I mean. But as you get further along it will become easier, I promise.
bben46
Computer terms 101 - Geek terminology for non-geeks This deals with computer terms as they relate to Oblivion Mods. If you come across a term that you don't understand let me know and I will be happy to include it here. Folder: Think of your hard drive as a filing cabinet. It has different drawers - the main subdivisions such as My documents or programs. these are used to organize the folders which hold the files. A folder can also hold other folders (sub folders). Sub folder: A folder that is contained inside of another folder. File: This is a single piece of something, like a piece of paper in the filing cabinet. Such as Oblivion.exe, the .exe tells geeks that this is an executable file or a program. in fact it is the Oblivion game program. Many times a program needs smaller pages to work, these files can be many different types. In Oblivion mods you will be most concerned with .esp files these are the actual mod files. Program: A file that is 'executable' or has instructions that the computer can act on. A program can be 'run' while a non executable file needs a program to do anything. Data: Information that can be used by a program. The .esp files that contain mods are 'data' files that have new information that Oblivion.exe can use to make the mod work. And for some reason, The program expects to find them in a sub folder named 'Data' (C:\Programs and files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data)If you are going to use mods you need to know where this is and how to put things into it. Path, or file path: This is the directions to the computer telling it how to find a file or program, each folder is seperated by a \ (back slash). so the directions for finding the Oblivion.exe (the game) are C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Oblivionlauncher.exe The translation is: Start at the C: drive (drives and other physical devices will have a : (colon) after them to let the computer know that this is a device. Then a \ (backslash) to let it know that what follows is a seperate instruction, then look in the C:\ drive for the folder named 'Programs and Files' (C:\Program and Files)another \ then look in the Programs and Files folder for a subfolder named 'Bethesda Softworks' C:\Programs and Files\Bethesda Softworks - That is the name of the company that makes Oblivion, all of their games go in this sub folder. - Next, in that folder, look for a sub folder named 'Oblivion'. (C:\Programs and Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion)Then in that folder find the program (.exe) named OblivionLauncher.exe and run it. (C:\Programs and Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\oblivionlauncher.exe) This is the 'default' of recommended 'path' for installing Oblivion on a computer running Windows XP. on a Vista system it will be different. When it finds the .exe you asked for, it will stop looking and run the program named Oblivionlauncher The launcher checks to see if you have the Oblivion CD in your CD drive (usually D: or E:)loads several other files needed for Oblivion to work, then displays the Oblivion menu - you will see the start menu with Play, Data Files Options and other choices. If you select Play, it starts another program named Oblivion.exe which is the actual game. To make it simpler, Windows allows shortcuts that can be placed on the desktop (the first screen you see when it starts, the one with the icons on it) Oblivion puts a shortcut on your desktop that automatically does the work of following the path, finding the right.exe program and starting the game for you. Vanilla: This just means the game with NO mods, only the patch is considered a part of the vanilla game. Patch: An official upgrade to the game from the maker (Bethesda Softworks), usually to fix problems. Be sure you get the patch that matches the language of your game disk. Note there are 2 English patch versions for Oblivion, US & UK and the are different. However, there is only one English patch for both US & UK for Shivering Isles. All patches are available here: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm GOTY: Abbreviation for 'Game of the Year' version. Includes Oblivion, Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine and all except one of the DLC mods. DLC: Abbreviation for 'Downloadable Content' - Only available from the Bethesda official Oblivion Website. They are for pay, but inexpensive.Available Here: http://obliviondownloads.com/StoreCatalog_...SubCategoryId=1 OBMM: Oblivion Mod manager, a program (Not a Mod) used to organize mods and change load order of mods. available here: http://timeslip.chorrol.com/obmm.html OBSE: Oblivion Script Extender. A program (not a mod) used to add to the Oblivion game and make possible mods that the original game designers did not believe could be done. Required for some mods. Available here: http://obse.silverlock.org/ SI: Abbreviation for the game expansion Shivering Isles. KOTN: Abbreviation for the game expansion Knights of the Nine. CS: Abbreviation for the Oblivion Construction Set that allows you to make your own mods.Available here: (FREE) http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_utilities.htm
