Dinin
Something that people need to realize is that the creators of Morrowind wanted you to be a Dark elf. It's no coincidence that they have the most character creation options. Plus, its kinda common sense that the reincarnation of a dark elf (Neverar) would be another dark elf.... Not sure if this helps to prove or disprove if they're overrated. Both? confused...
Eiade
Well dark elves may be too balanced as characters, and not able to effectively specialize in one field, but there is one pretty good thing about being dunmer: Much more the half the population of Vvardenfell is dark elves, and npc's that are the same race as you like you more, being a dark elf makes a lot of people like you more than usual. However, it isn't that big of a deal, its only like 10 or 15 points difference.
Crim, The Red Thunder
ummm... i thought that the entire dunmer race used to be the chimer? According to one of those papers in the back of the palace of vivec, this is true. (if someone will give me a bit, i can post the contents of the paper... assuming no moderator says anything about it being too spoily... which it shouldnt be since it only tells the story of nerevar, not about the future of the game...) to my understanding the entire chimer race (including nerevar) waged ware on the Dwemer race, because of the profane things they had begun to indulge in. After the war was won, and the dwemer disappeared, the tools of kagrenac were collected, and dagoth ur held them. Nerevar was killed, and the tribunal took the tools, and was severley chastised, and cursed, by Azura. They tribunal used the tools themselves, and the chimer race became white-haired and dark-skinned, and azura said that the chimer had changed to reflect the decision of the tribunal... Therefore, nerevar, already being dead, was not changed into a dunmer, but remained chimer. So technically Nerevar should be coming back as a Chimer. Please tell me if this is too spoily and i will edit it out... thanks!
Dinin
Another point to show that the reincarnation of nerevar should be a dark elf SPOILER!! During the main mission, you have to go to the Cave of the Incarnate, inside the cave are the ghosts of all the reincarnations that have failed in the past. All of them are dark elves. Crim, The Red Thunder
Well, that's just because of the misconception that the fakes have. They probably took the ashlander point of view, and of course, none of them have read the Apographa! You're right though... they are all dunmer... hunh... anyway, it's also possible that no other 'fakes' arose, since they couldnt pass the test of the ashkhan, and the ashlanders would not have accepted them without some severe proof. Neither did any of them over-come the curse-of-flesh. (That shouldnt be spoily, since most people dont know what that is, or they have already done that part of the quest.)To be honest, a non-dunmer would have a hard time proving that he was the reincarnation of nerevar to the ashlanders, as well as to some of the house council members. Therefore, very few (if any!) would ever even have a chance of rising beyond the trial of the ashkhan! So they wouldnt be sent to the cavern of the incarnate! (Shot that down!!! sorry if i seem rude here, but this is a major annoyance of mine... i hate the fact that Nerevar was 'supposed' to be one of the ugly dark elves... i mean, gray skin and white hair... makes me think of some ugly monster... troll-like... emaciated troll-like... They should have allowed you to at least reclaim your rightful appearance of a chimer at some point in the game... speaking of which, anyone want to make a mod for this? ^_^ ) And as i promised, here's the excerpts from the book in the back of vivec's library. I am going to say this JUST ONCE!!! Spoilers Within!!! Edit: For those who wonder about the title of the file, i generally compose my posts offline, so as not to tie up the phoneline... Edit: If anyone needs another type of file, i can probably do that to! Just ask!
cmac
Most underrated...Redgaurds. Most overrated...well, l0|\|g L1v3 t3H Bw3/\/\3r!!!11!1!!!
Crim, The Red Thunder
you know, i STILL dont think anyone has said what the bwemer are... edit: HINT-HINT!!!!! Edit: *gently elbows cmac in the ribs* Edit: *Apologizes to cmac* Edit: Something i didnt think of before, the dark-elves in the cavern of the incarnate were only the failed reincarnations that MADE it that far. There could have been others, but since they didnt reach the cavern, they weren't mummified there. I dont know if this proves whether they are still over or underrated, but it's true. Edit: It makes sense to me that the dunmer should be balanced, since they were changed by the decision of the tribunal, so naturally their attributes changed as well. I like to think that they received a MINUTE portion of power that the tribunal received, so that's why they have no real weaknesses. This goes to say that the dunmer are overrated as far as im concerned, i mean, do you want to play a race tainted by evil?
Abramul
Tainted with evil? Just because 3 of them broke a .... rather important... promise doesn't exactly taint them, does it? Anyway, that's why... I could probably try one now, but only if i had a mod with another speed source in it... (I grew a little TOO attached to that +200 speed...) It's all about the alchemists, baby!My character is a Breton, born under the Apprentice (50% Resist Magicka, 50% Weakness to Magicka, 2 X Fortify Maximum Magicka * 0.5 INT), and following the trade of Witchhunter. Currently, my Willpower and Intelligence are (I think...will edit once I'm back at my dorm) on the order of 30k, and I have comparable potions for all the other stats. Admittedly, when I tried using a Levitate potion, I went so fast that the game crashed, and the same would probably happen for Swift Swim and Speed++, but the fact remains that with a decent Alchemy skill, and enough Fortify Intelligence potions, you can do (almost) anything! To prove this point, consider: Having used a Fortify Strength potion, I was running around Mournhold, killing High Ordies with 1 Steel Dart each...quite a moneymaker! P.S. My char has no head...what's the console command for race choice and all?
Eiade
P.S. My char has no head...what's the console command for race choice and all? enter "enableracemenu" into the console (no quotes). Except when you activate this menu, you'll probably have to go through the class and birthsign stuff again, so know exactly your majors and minors. Yes, I see the benefits of being a good alchemist, but you didn't really post much pertaining to this thread. You should've posted that in the 'boast' thread. What do you think is the most overrated and/or underrated race in Morrowind?
Crim, The Red Thunder
Im going to say this, and then probably start another thread (if i can figure out where i should put it... dont want to anger the mods... *hastily offers sacrifice to small shrine built of aluminum rods on side of desk*) on whether the Reincarnation of nerevar should be a dark elf... like i said earlier this is a big annoyance of mine, since i 'just dont like' the dunmer' as they are ugly (personal opinion... no offense), and id much like to see more peoples point of view on that... (on whether they should be the reincarnation, not on how good they look...) I wasnt immediately referring to the three as evil because of what they did, but the 'HEART' is evil and they were tainted by that. that was what i meant. I also have a new most underrated race... Orc's! I can count on one hand the number of times i have seen someone brag about their orc character... and orc who specialize in both melee and marksman combat are VERY good... and they look fairly decent in a full set of orcish armor... (Green skin.... ughghhh... more ugliness...) edited for clarification
