IsharaMeradin
Unfortunately, no. The ability to recruit her as an actual follower is not available until the questline for either side has been completed. That said, if you take the questline to a specific point and then ignore the questline she will follow you but she is not technically a follower at that point (she cannot be dismissed or trade items). In theory, one could make an addon for Alternate Start: Live Another Life where the player chooses a start that has the vampire side fully complete or the dawnguard side fully complete. Serana should then be able to be recruited at that point. But it would need to be done with care as there are most likely a variety of variables that need to be set to certain values along with advancing the questline. anjenthedog
I dragged my heals on Dawnguard first time through the questline (it wasn't all that fun to me frankly). Serana was my follower once I released her from the tomb. So.........technically, you could get to that point, then dawdle like I did to be clear I wasn't dawdling on purpose to forgo completion, I was just far more interested in wandering the world and taking my time doing unrelated side quests, since I'd blazed through the dragonborn quest, which I'd found unsatisfying, in part to the fast pace and in large part to my utter ignorance in "these new fangled games" after I hadn't played a computer game in over a decade << that one I'm over... I'm no newb any more... just still an old partially crippled fart looking to fill time. In the end, I released her after the dawnguard quest. II found her as vapid and shallow as Lydia, or even the much hallowed Sofia, (who'd probably still be around in my game if she wasn't such an aggressive, glitchy lush). I've since backtracked to a level ten save and have no active followers and am enjoying the game without any follower or even starting the dawnguard quest. There are no vamps that can stand up to me, with the possible exception of her father.., who I have no intention of meeting up with at this point. If I really wanted a Serana look alike, I'd copy her body and face and drop it onto some poor unsuspecting follower mod, although that process is one I'd rather not have to spell out, due to being barely awake and not having had close to enough coffee to think clearly. Not to say I don't understand why some might want her as a waifu/etc, but whatever. She's not my up of tea, but then neither are all those chubby, watermellon boobed Nordic warrior princesses... There are mods that can overcome the vanilla limitations if that's where you're going  best wishes.

anjenthedog
 you'd be surprised how much I can type when I'm not. Heh... no, I wasn't saying Serana is a giant boobed war maiden. sorry if I miscommunicated, it was just a comment on how personal choice influences us. Just fine. but thnx for asking. I simply prefer the freedom of wandering, and I mean well into areas followers have no navmesh path to navigate, in skyrim proper, in the Bruma extension, and in the reach from its addon (there I totally ignore the heartbreaking, dystopian story that I cause to progress by "playing" its quests... erm, I mean I don't do the quest line, specifically because... spoiler...) It's not a happy ending Afaik there are several mods you can use to re-wrap a random follower with her looks (if that's what someone is after), or, if you just want her as a follower, there are ways to do that. for instance, aside from what I outlined earlier you can force it by using AFT or certain other mods (ex: The manipulator), **once you free her from her tomb** best wishes. Oh...ps> In answer to you last question. well, for F's sake...I'm a dragon born god of course  , and honestly, having played this long, if I really get into something I can't handle with my level and all the various charms and buffed equipment I carry (I focus early on beefing up my smithing, potions, and enchanting ... and archery, sword skills and sneak as "minors", so by level 50 or so I have a strong arsenal, moderately high level armors, and a lot of almost constant protective buffs and juicy poisons and remedies), and as I was saying before I distracted myself, if I get into something I can't handle, well, I have no qualms about going god mode. As I said, I enjoy wandering, (not dying). this game isn't a "challenge" for me, it's an escape. blah blah blah, see the green text for the stuff that applies, and ignore the rest or don't, I'm just feeling talkative. my apologies for the non-germane blather.. I like to wander

I like to wander   xD ur kinda strange. in a postive way imho . anyways, then surprise me xD im always glad to meet people that talk a lot. particularly online where common to find is few words ._. and ahh okay i thought u meant u didnt like serana because she has big boobs and im like lol she has none aha. sadly idk what addond or sad story ur talking about o.o care to tell me where it is? so i can go check it out. personally i think seranas story is super sad and idk how or why they put something so dark in o.o tho it probably why i like serana as fave follower. oh i see u added the spoiler hmm, i think i rather go do this quest ur talking about then come back and read the spoiler . also imma be honest with ya, the suggestions for getting serana in diff ways make no sense to me as idk what any of those things are aha but thank u. yeah that escape is exactly why it seems so odd to not use a follower. tho regardless of using one or not , u never mentionede which follower is ur favorite. and lol i meant if u prefer werewolf or vampire but i see u just meant it as no vamp can stand against dragonborn haha funny. no worries, feel free to say as much as u want, always glad to read and respond to it :
anjenthedog
thnx, I take no offense. In fact, I feel a bit complimented. I *am a bit strange. but generally not in a bad way. PS< yeah I said it was a spoiler. Ok you want her *(Serana) as a follower right, without doing the whole dawnguard quest?(i'd prefer not to get into the complications of re-wrapping NPCs if possible. Let's just skip all that, as it *is a more advanced subject) AFT (Amazing Follower Tweaks) is one of the two primary "follower management mods". There is another which is afaik a much better follower manager, NFF, but I don't know if it'll allow the same forced follower status. follow the links to get the lowdown on each. But hold if you do, at least for a day or two, for input from others who may be reading but not speaking and might pipe in with additional info I can't provide on that score (ie, AFT vs NFF... can NFF be used to force serana as a follower?) , as Nether's Follower Framework (NFF) would be a better overall follower framework to use if it does allow what you want from her. It's a far newer and richer follower management tool than AFT (you can't have both) In addition, there's The Manipulator, which will require visiting and signing up at another site (Lover's lab) to get it, as it's a bit more of an NSFW mod which for whatever reason isn't on the Nexus (folks please let's not get into the political stuff). Might be a bit more than you're ready for but I had to mention it to be as complete as I could be. Follow the link and read up if you want to know more. I'ze jes a player, not a salesman. :wink:I'm not going to provide a lengthy list, as that's one thing I'm not terribly fond of spending time on. This wil not leave you with a perma pal. She'll balk every now and then, but it will "get the job done" for long enough that you can decide to do the dawnguard quest in full at some point. And I don't care if it's a spoiler or not, but know that doing that quest does NOT mean that you have to become a vampire. I never did and I completed it. I won't any more than I'll become a werewolf, or an assassin, or other things I simply won't do. I'm no "angel", but do have my limits, even if they're too moralistic or squeamish or whatever when viewed through someone else's eyes. Lastly... Yuih Sha is my favorite. Hands down. although I did trim her breast size a bit, and swapped her "gizzards" for a BHUNP "chassis" (suitable for use with the UNP family source better than CBBE family bodies) , as IRL me favors less endowed womenfolk and stiff boobs simply annoy me. Having said that, in my current game she's still where you find her after installation, mixing potions at the inn in Riverwood, since as I noted, I have no active followers in the present playthrough. anjenthedog
Beyond Skyrim Bruma Beyond Reach In My Opinion, these are both best left until you have a bit of experience, and until you have at least a level ~20-30 ish player. There may even be level restrictions, but you'll have to *do your homework to find out. I have no idea any more. There are also quite a few additional mods that'll likely be necessary to get the best out of them, so I'd recommend you leave off for now and just keep aware, maybe *visit the linked pages to get a bit familiar, then go on over to you tube and look them up, There are showcases and even playthroughs the invisible borders can be undone with a mod, although off the top of my head I can't recall what its name is, my mod manager isn't open right now, and I'm too lazy to open it and find the thing. I'll post back later unless someone else does in the interim. So remember the "too much on your plate" thing someone may have (hopefully) said when you were little? It still applies. Get fully comfy in the main game, you can always expand later.
anjenthedog
PS> Look for "serana replacers" if you want her dialog but prefer different looks and/or "mechanics". There are afaik, a slew of them. Just type "serana" into the file search window from the main Nexus Skyrim SE page and you'll see what I mean.
