Oblivion models in Fallout 3

Seeing as guns and ammunition haven't been produced in 200 years, I think there should be an ammo shortage in the game. A simple sawed-off shotgun should be a rare and prized weapon. Bows (and possibly crossbows) should be the weapon of choice of your standard wastelanders.

Obviously, fallout 3 has no bows... but Oblivion does! Would it be possible to use their textures, sounds, meshes, and hopefully even animations in fallout? Could this be as simple as opening up GECK, and telling it to use the mesh, texture, and sound of the bow from Oblivion? I think there has to be a catch, considering no one has done this yet...

But I might as well try, right? First of all, I need to know where the needed files are located. The directory system is different than in fallout 3, and I don't feel like scrolling threw a list of 1000 mesh/texture/sound files. Next, I need to know if it's possible to use the animation from Oblivion and implement it in this game. That's not a big deal; I don't care if it has a regular gun reload animation. I would also need to know where the files for the arrow ammo are.

Here's something a little more complicated: implementing a crossbow mod. I was able to locate a crossbow on TESnexus, but it required OBSE. the mod needs that script extender, but will FOSE also suffice?

To be honest, I've never done anything more complicated than changing weapon stats in the GECK object tab or changing faction relations. So any help I can get will be much appreciated.

You can't use models/meshes/or animations from oblivion to port over to fallout 3.....just trying to save you a MASSIVE poo STORM from bethesda's legal department.

You're saying that's illegal? I don't see how that's possible, considering I own both games, and therefore the texture/mesh/sound files. Obviously uploading such a mod will be a problem, but that's a totally different subject.

Okay, so I just unpacked the oblivion files and tried to apply them to a custom weapon in the GECK. Unfortunately, I got the dreaded red-box-with-exclamation-mark-of-doom. I honestly don't see why that's happening, considering it's a .nif file, just like everything else...

Well is there a way to change the model so that it's compatible with Fallout? After all, weren't people able to add hair meshes from Oblivion to Fallout 3?

Edit: If nexus is against using resources between the games, then why do they have an article on how to do it with hair meshes right here: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/articles/article.php?id=32

I quickly skimmed through this, and it's mostly right over my head, but I guess I'll just have to try...

As far as I'm aware if you own both games then you're more than welcome to mix and match textures and meshes as you see fit.

The one thing you must NOT do is put those up as a mod for others to use. It will simply be for you to enjoy on your own.

yes there is but are the hairs you speak from Ob vanilla or a mod?

that's the thing, beth can't tell a modder that he can't share his work among several games unless he didn't do the work.

as I though that article is about making hair mods (not oblivion default) compatible for FO3

yeah, I can't model either

Alright guys, thanks for the protip on uploading this type of stuff; I don't want to get taken away by the partyvan in the middle of the night!

Like I said, I'll just keep stabbing at it until something happens, but hopefully someone will make an 100% original crossbow mod before I pull my hair out!

Been using this tutorial:

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/articles/article.php?id=26

I suppose I've made some progress now. I was able to get *some* of the bow mesh to appear in fallout 3. By that, I mean that when I paste the bow over the pistol in nifskope, the bottom of the barrel, handle, and trigger still appear, and only some of the bow mesh still appears. Basically looks like I'm holding half a pistol that has giant rods sticking out of the top and bottom, connected by a single string. But hey, at least I was able to get something to appear ingame.

Now, Jaysus' tutorial mentioned that you had to replace each part of the mesh separately. Replace a trigger with a trigger, a handle with a handle, etc. I suppose what I did was replace a specific part of the pistol with the respective part from the bow. However, it doesn't explain how to switch all the different pieces of the mesh, or even where the different pieces are located in the Block List in nifskope.

If an experienced modder could help me, it would be much appreciated.
