Adding new items with textures I have?

I've downloaded some reskins for armor off of Nexus.

However, rather than re-skinning my current armors, could I create a new piece of equipment

using the mesh from the old one and the new texture?

 

For example, say I got a Tesla Armor reskin~

Could I make a NEW power armor piece, without replacing Tesla's?

 

How would I go about doing this?
