raatorotta
I'm planning update on my computer. I was thinking new mother + cpu, but i don't know will my gpu be fine with them. For mother i thought Asrock 990fx extreme4 and for board-matching CPU would be AMD FX 8320. All other devices are good with this motherboard, and its almost same as my old one M3a ucc, but with updates.Would my GPU, Geforce GTX 460 will work fine with this or should i get new? It's pretty old after all, but been fine with new games too. It has small amount of memory though only 768mb, because i have that version.I was thinking power too, if i get new GPU do i need new power supply too? whitout GPU change, old would do fine. With fast looking, as for example, GTX 660 wouldn't need more power, but GTX 780 would atleast 150W more power. What should i do? Should i ust buy GPU later when i have more money? edit: Also is Zalman GNPX7 cooler enough? Edited September 1, 2013 by raatorotta
Phalanx108
The current GPU will suffice for now, don't stress out over the upgrade. Just get it when you can comfortably afford it. I've never heard of the Zalman GNPX7 cooler, though. Looked through my store's stock to check it out in person and we don't have any here either, so I can't help you there, Edited September 1, 2013 by Phalanx108
Rennn
An AMD FX 8320 (at 4.0Ghz) is inferior in performance to an Intel i5 3570k (at 3.4Ghz) for a similar price. The i5 is dominating the high-end CPU market right now. That said, if your mobo is only going to have an AM3 slot, the FX 8320 is a good choice. Any decent CPU shouldn't really be a bottleneck, provided it has 4 or more cores. The 768MB GTX 460s overclock quite well. When I still had one, I got it from 700Mhz up to 850Mhz without any trouble, and gained 5-10 fps in many games. If I had pushed the voltage a bit higher I probably could have gotten it up to a stable 900Mhz, but I didn't want to stress it just in case something went wrong. You could consider overclocking, but then again, you might need a better PSU for that as well. Mine was 750w. Now I have a GTX 660 GC, and I don't bother to overclock that. It's already factory overclocked by Galaxy, and Nvidia did quite a good job of making all 600 and 700 series cards boost themselves when under load.
