BartMetEenC
Why hello there! I hope someone can aid me with this certain matter: since the beginning of dawn, my computer (- it's old) has the odd fetish of closing oblivion during one of my sessions of gaming, usually on the peaks of my joyfulness. Sometimes, my computer even restarts itself entirely! Ha! Must be a turn-on for my computer to turn itself off (and on). ¡¡¡ :wallbash: !!! Soo yes. It happens quite randomly, sometimes when I'm just walking, exiting a dungeon (or a room) after clearing it entirely, but killing a creature outside is seemingly the biggest risk. Restarting goes from immediate, to when I click on 'close error report' after oblivion has been closed (maybe my computer sees windows entirely as an error, so that's why he closes it too). Help! Thanks! Bye!
bben46
A computer restarting is usually the power supply. If your power supply is weak or underpowered, when the video card calls for more power it isn't there. Then the 5 volts drops too low and it resets - the same as pressing the reset button. For crashes that just take you out of Oblivion, and especially the one when you exit Oblivion, Try this, Windom Earle_s Oblivion Crash Prevention System http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282 It's still experimental, but it's getting high ratings. It's being updated often so if it doesn't fix all of your crashes check back in a few days. Note, it is not a mod and doesn't install like a mod, so be sure to read the instructions. SavageArtistry
My brand new computer at my last job did that, destroying hours of graphic design work on a regular basis. After awhile of complaining they finally sent it back to be fixed and it turned out to be the fault of the cheap motherboard. I've also heard of things like this happening because of viruses. If I were you I would probably take your computer in for a checkup if bben's suggestion about that anti-crash file doesn't help.
BartMetEenC
Thanks for the replies! I'll try the crash prevention program, after I downloaded OBSE which appears to be needed for it. I'll let you know if it works. I do not think it is caused by a virus though; it has always been this way on my computer, also a couple of years ago when I first played oblivion. Between that time and now, I had a... loss of my entire hard drive. To be sure, I'll do a virus scan anyway, you never know, thanks!
BartMetEenC
..Unfortunately, I still have crashes in Oblivion only, even with the crash prevention program installed. And no virus. Maybe it's just something I need to live with  perhaps not.. Anyone got any ideas left?
bben46
If you are still seeing resets, I suspect a weak power supply. How many watts is it? On many pre built systems they put in the cheapest power supply they can get away with, If its less than 400 Watts it's probably too weak. Especially if you have added anything like a newer video board or something else to your computer. You can get a 500W or better for about US $50 on the internet. Be sure to check the reviews before buying. Note that in many pre built systems, the power supply is not standard. Make sure the one you pick will fit before ordering one. Especially if it is a Dell, HP, or other big name box. As for crashes, we will always have some, but if you can't play for more than an hour without a CTD there is something else wrong. BartMetEenC
Thanks again, and nice post count: 2222 Well I'll check the power supply when there is daylight, else it would be a horrible way of spending my night. I do believe though, that I have rather good power supply. Yet then again, I have few understanding of such things.
