Going to buy Oblivion, what mods should I get?

I've already looked at a few things and found a few mods I liked, but I though it would be worth it to ask. I don't care if the mod isn't lore-friendly. I don't want "Sexy" female NPCs, armor, or body mods, or mods that have nudity. So, first off, I want to ask if there are Oblivion versions of a "few" Skyrim mods I liked: (this will probably be a loooooong list)

Amazing Follower Tweaks

Apachii Hair

Unofficial *INSERT OBLIVION OR OBLIVION DLC NAME HERE* Patch

Personalized Music

AK- Placeable Statics

AK- Clothe Dead NPCs (I'm assuming you can't do this without mods in Oblivion)

ShowRaceMenu Alternative

Convienient Horses

RaceMenu, or at least the customizable tints part of it, so I could have light blue hair, and purple skin if I wanted to

Unlimited Rings and Amulets

Better Vampires

Mass Effect Biotic Spells

Conjureable chest and other crafting furniture

Locational Damage

The Dance of Death

Deadly Mutilation

AK- Alternate Actors

Also, is there a Health Regen mod to make it a bit more like Skyrim? Is there a Oblivion Script Extender? I found a mod that makes most NPCs bearable to look at, but I still think Orcs look ugly. Is there a "Better Looking Orcs" mod? I also noticed there were some cool spells in Morrowind like Slowfall and Levitate, but were left out of Oblivion. Is there a mod that adds those spells back in? Is there any good formal clothing mods? They can either be lore friendly mods that fit in with the setting, or unlore-friendly mods that add in modern formal clothes like suits or tuxedos (I would prefer unlore-friendly suits and tuxedos) also, I don't want female clothing mods, because I am male, and will never play as a female. I would also need these clothing mods to work with Orcs and Argonians, because those are the two races I play as. What other mods would you recommend? Like quests, weapons, spells, NPCs, overhauls, etc?

Recommendations for mods are asked for so often that I have a standard response, so let's start with that first:

Everyone has their individual preferences so it's hard to recommend particular mods without knowing what you like.

I'd start with the Unofficial Patches as they fix a lot of bugs and annoyances that Bethesda had missed.

You'll need to have some way of sorting your load order:And to manually adjust the load order (pick one or more)...
  • Nexus Mod Manager is the newest and allows automatic installation straight from Nexus. While this feature is handy, it is less reliable than manual installation.
  • Oblivion mod manager is not as powerful as Wrye Bash (below), but is easier to use. It supports OMODs, a packaging method used by some mod authors.
  • Wrye Bash is probably the most powerful load order manager and seems to be recommended by the most mod Authors.
Keep in mind that almost all complex mods require The Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) to function properly so make sure you have that installed if you download any mods that require it.

After that, browse around and pick whatever mods appeal to you. I'd suggest trying one or two simple mods first before attempting to install the mega-overhaul mods like OOO, UV or MMM (those acronyms will become familiar to you soon ) Most mods have installation instructions that you should follow. You can check the Nexus Top 100 for the most popular mods, and filter it by category if you're after a particular type of mod.

If you haven't played through Oblivion though, many would suggest not adding new content until you've played Oblivion for a while and have an idea what would improve your gameplay the most.

Personal opinion: The only part of Oblivion that I think is "unplayably broken" is the default leveling system which forces you to play in odd ways if you want to maximise your character. So IMHO, a mod that alters the levelling system is something that I would recommend right from the beginning.

  • All +5 Attribute Modifier or Attribute Plus X lets you use the default system without worrying about how many attribute points you'll get on level-up.
  • Realistic Leveling and nGCD let you simply play the game and your attributes will increase automatically based on skills leveled.
  • Oblivion XP gives a classic CRPG style leveling system: earn enough experience points to level up and spend your attributes as you see fit.
Have fun with the mods!

I don't know about all mods, but here's some that I do know about:

Amazing Follower Tweaks Oblivion doesn't have an official follower system. Get CM Partners for this.

Apachii Hair Look in the Hair and Face Models category for equivalents

Personalized Music Better Music System

AK- Placeable Statics

Conjureable chest and other crafting furniture Search for "furniture" and you'll find some

Locational Damage

The Dance of Death

Deadly Mutilation Deadly Reflex probably does something similar, but I haven't used it.

my most liked housemod

companionmods: Summon Vampire,Vilja, , Saerilet

I personally dislike CM partners cause they handle like sheep.

You personalize your game by taking your favourite mods. No other one plays the same game.

Oblivion is in my opinion the most and best modded game in the world.

Best quests you find in hot 100

One little hint at last. Do not put in all mods at once. Go step by step and test, test, test.

Don't forget
have fun

Harvald
