IvoryKey
I hope this hasn't been said before, because it seems like the kind of thing that should have been bashed. to. death. by the modding community, but I suppose it might be hard to do, and I couldn't find it anywhere- But doesn't it annoy you when an enemy attacking you and, being a mage or spellsword, have no shield or blocking weapon available to you? Think of it in real life- If you had the ability to fire flames or lightning or ice out of your hands, and you saw an enemy spell or arrow hurtling towards you at breakneck speed, what do you do? You try to move away, and/or you try to deflect it! You have *no* idea how many times in Skyrim I've tried to null someone's spell by firing another spell at it in quick succession, or tried to incinerate an arrow. I agree it's pushing it expecting an ice-spike to deflect a sword as if it hit a shield, but spell interaction with other spells or arrows would be amazing, rather than them passing through eachother. So here is what I propose- Someone should make a mod where spells interact with the projectiles they hit. If you want, I will support you as best I can, though I am extremely rookie at modding. But it seems logical that a 2 fireballs hitting eachother should cancel out, or a fireball and an ice spike, or a lightning bolt should knock an arrow out of the sky (good luck aiming at these things of course, but I'm sure it will happen more than you expect). So I would say spells should interact that- Equal level spells cancel out, with an animation perhaps, and higher level spells override lower level spells, and spells override arrows. Except with one exception- Focus spells. Frostbite/flames/lightning should cancel out all level spells (a torrent seems like a logical deterrent to a burst of magic) which gives these highly redundant spells more use in strategy (because face it, nobody uses these Novice level spells after level 10), as well as being low cost (unless perhaps cancelling should cost Magicka as a form of balance). However on the flip side, arrows which are overridden by projectile spells should be completely unaffected by focus spells, giving a sense of balance/mitigation to the new "ward"- Also it makes a modicum of sense, as an arrow *can* travel through a raging fire. Finally, I believe some spells should have gravity like arrows do- Definitely ice projectiles, and possibly the AoE fire one (like firing a mortar or grenade!). However I agree lightning and fire, being energy, really shouldn't have gravity effects, and neither should the AoE ice storm (imagine its animation lobbing- it would be comical!).Anways, what do you think of my idea?
