jaysus
ashtray-fu and beerbottle-fu here :P its really effective i must admit... but honestly, i didnt do any martial art in a school as i deem most of them useless in real combat situations... each style has its pros and cons but you usually dont learn how to utilize them under stress and in nasty situations and neither do they tell you how to keep controle over a fight, however there are some schools that do exactly that, most often these are wing chun schools (or similiar as nearly every honk makes his own school with a similiar name to avoid the licencing problems lol) if you look at martial art as a way to keep your fitness wing chun might not be the right choice tho as its mostly just standing and waddling with your hands at the opponent, Taek won do or kickboxing and the like are better for that case as youre whole body is used to proceed in an attack. if there is some kind of rule or you need the style to controle an opponent in a fight, grappling styles are favourable if youre in lethal danger id just advise ou t utilize the surroundings and use anything you can get your hands or feet on as a weapon... even the enemies body, just finish the fight asap by attacking the same spot over and over again if you are in good condition or outright attack sensitive spots like the temples, arteries, nerve centers and weak bones or joints... a good collection of these spots can for example be found in the us army field manual for self defence, it also tells you how hard to hit to achieve different outcomes be aware that having been in a martial art school and harming an opponent can bring serious law suit problems with it... always try to make sure that there are either no witnesses or many witnesses which can proove that you defended and didnt attack, make sure that they understand your self defence intention for example by taking your hands up, palms facing the enemy and calmly but loudly speak out that your dont want trouble but you prolly knew all that yet :P

It's not fancy, and it's not very nice, but when you're being mugged you don't really care.I used to do Karate, but gave it up as it was all too, well, difficult (I was 13). jaysus
uh capopeira... looks damn sweet... and sweaty :P definately good as a work out... and together with the music really enjoyable... i also like muai thai for the music they play while you get knocked over and over again... @azirwell ya basicly you could do that but you should always keep in mind the tension of a situation... if you kick someone in the balls it usually escalates right away and no moral codes of honor will be kept aliveid say use it only as a last resort and start running like crazy afterwards... (well if there are more than one opponent that is) - and as a male myself i must say i defy such moves :P almost* no enemy deserves to be balless for the rest of his life and that happens faster than you might think... my ex gf kicked a guy in the nuts once... hes one-balled now  and that wasnt even a heavy kick but a slight breeze... *well some deserve it... The groin, a kneecap, the nose or temple are my favorites . I fight for keeps not to just kick butt. jaysus
mmh frankly i dont think you can compare a tournament to a streetfight or life/death combat situation... you have quite alot of protection, a safe heaven so to speak, full of rules, protective gear and umpiresthis reduces stress level alot once you did one or two fights... let me compare it to my latest endavour in stress testing... i was climbing up that huge 30m rock surrounded by safety lines yet i never did something like that before and thus my knees started wobbling (never thought thatd be possible lol except for to-few-muscle-situations but not out of fear), once i made myself clear that the worst that could happen would be that i swing around abit and maybe smack my skull on the rock but couldnt fall to my death right away that problem was solved... had it been a real climbing situation without any security lines (not just free climbing is ropeless... the one going up first usually is not secured aswell) i doubt i would have been able to defeat that sentiment that easily... what im getting at is that "real" situations dont have any safety borders which make us feel comfortable, defeating that fear and becoming able to focus on the problem at hand without thinking too much about consequences is something you dont easily learn in any 0815 school you know how to fight? poets dont know how! thats a lie! :P (jking)groin? got no honor? :D kneecap? plz attack from the side and not frontal as its indeed quite robust... from the side you can kick it out of the joint tho and disable the whole leg :D fun!hits to the head are dangerous to your knuckles... the nose is soft enough tho not to hurt yourself thotemples are kinda deadly imo... a last resort like eyes, larynx, arteries or ballsthe problem with those spots xcept for the knee is that they are hard to reach if youre opponent knows his stuff... but there are alot of sensitive spots around the arms, the legs, corpus and the shoulders which are easier to hit and still have devastating effects but ya show me your skill :) you sponsor the planeticket right? personally i like counter attacks alot... get attacked, grab the limb and either throw, break or kick/hitsaves energy and bystanders can see youre not the aggresor
