heythere
I am thinking about getting a Macbook Pro 17" with Leopard (thus Bootcamp and Windows XP, allowing me to play Windows-only programs seamlessly). 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB, 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm, 1920x1200 pixel LED-backlit display, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. Cost would be about $3000. Anybody think this is a good buy or is there a better, cheaper option?

Thor.
If anyones thinking of getting a windows based laptop make sure you don't get any with Vista installed, trying finding drivers for xp can be a pain if you Don't. .
Flamemonkey
Personally, I'd build a Desktop computer for like, a tenth of that cost with similar power... Mild exaggeration, but hey. I'm a bit of a budget gamer. I'm fine with what I've built for around $700, and all I recycled were my 120/500GB HDDs. Course, I haven't got QUITE all of it... *Points to Video Card, which was in fact considered in the $700*About the only real difference is I guess your computer would run on the faster SATA *Mine's IDE* and you've got DDR3 *Mine's DDR2*. The fact that yours is ultra portable is totally not a consideration here. Oh, but mine runs on the much better HD4850. :O But that's just desktop there. Those always seem to be huge tons of cheap somehow... >_>* EDIT:What's wrong with Vista if you've got a powerful computer? Sure, sticking it on your XP-aged machine is a rather stupid idea, but newer computers handle it just fine. And driver issue isn't really any sort of problem anymore. Sure, it sucked serious monkey balls when it came out, but now it's pretty alright. Course, Windows 7 blows BOTH OSs out of the water, but hey. Thor.
A friend of mine bought a Toshiba Laptop with a AMD Duel core at 2.6ghz, with a 8600gt with 512mb ram, also with a duel channel 2gb ram, and it runs Oblivion pretty will with XP on with max settings. Of Course when it was first bought it was preinstalled with that bloat ware and it was pretty slooow. also did a partition of windows 7 on that thing and at it rules. Flamemonkey
On a 512 MB installation, yeah, Vista would suck pretty bad. I meant on these new 4GB triple core processor computers, it wouldn't suck. XD I'll be in Basic Training when Windows 7 Beta ends/Windows 7 is (probably) Released, so the first thing I'm buying with all the money I make there is an i7 and Windows 7. ^_^ Then I'll actually have a GOOD computer to make people tremble. EDIT: OH WAIT you meant 512 MB on the video card. Gotcha. Thought you meant for the system. XD Either way, I thought Vista was perfectly fine on a newer machine. Hated it on my 1GB old machine, but actually enjoyed it on the 4GB one. Then Win 7 showed up...

Yeah, Vista sure was one of Microsoft's worst operating systems. I heard Microsoft already started working on a new one. So, either wait untill this new one gets released, or buy an XP.
