David Brasher
I am a fellow Vista sufferer. I haven't bought any of the official Bethesda mods yet, so I am not sure if my computer will handle them. Shivering Isles works fine. I do know that on my Vista system, the TES CS (The Elder Scrolls Construction Set) will not work if Oblivion is placed in the default directory. Vista has some extra security for that directory, and that makes the CS non-functional. I had to move Oblivion out to a different folder to make the CS behave like it is supposed to. I also have a lame and unimportant problem. When I exit Oblivion when I am done playing, I often get an error message. Something like, "Oblivion has stopped working. Please wait while windows searches for a solution to this problem." Duh! I actually don't want Oblivion to work anymore at the point I turn it off. Sometimes I have a hard time making windows stop looking for a solution to this "problem" when I want to use the computer for something else. white_dragoon_x
it cost me $100 and an i-pod to kill vista on my computer. (100 for the xp os and the i-pod for my friend to help me search for drivers.) but i know all the headaches that vista can cause all to well. every game, not just a few, every game i tried to run on vista would crash. sometimes i got a few minutes of game play out of it first and other times it just completely froze like a deer that has fallen in an iceberg. (car lights have just been over done and i have yet to get a deer to stop and stare at my headlights as i fly towards them.) and the computer i use for the internet is vista and i tried to put oblivion on here so i could play when i was on a road trip but it kept freezing. so i have completely given up on vista and if microsoft doesnt wow me with this new operating system that they are developing ill be done with them as well. and i will either use linix with windows emulator, or sell my computer and live in a cave for the rest of my life just waiting for the news that microsoft went bankrupt. AngryDespot
As has been mentioned previously, 64-bit can't do it, and Bethesda has the nerve to say, "Deal with it." However, unlike the other people who have told you what your problem is, I'm going to tell you how to circumvent this little issue. Before I get yelled at for plagiarism, this is solution 5 (The one I personally worked on my system.) on the Elder Scrolls Wiki Downloadable content Page. Source: Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages * Solution 5: (Works in all configurations.) (Note: With this method, you do not need to actually run the installation program. Doing so will only cause the same error messages as mentioned above.) 1. Download and install Universal Extractor 1.5 or later. 2. Open each plug-in's executable file with Universal Extractor and extract the files using the "isxunpack method". This will place several files in a Disk1 folder under whatever folder you specify (the same folder as the executable, by default, so Oblivion_Horse_Armor_Pack.exe would create an Oblivion_Horse_Armor_Pack\Disk1 folder structure). 3. Use Universal Extractor again, and in each of the previous Disk1 folders, open data1.cab. (Do not open data1.hdr.) This will create a Data1 folder in the specified folder. 4. Copy the Data folder in each of the above Data1 folders to your Oblivion folder. When asked if you want to merge the two Data folders, say "Yes". (Alternatively, you can copy all the files in each Data folder to the Oblivion\Data folder, which will avoid the merge questions each time.) * Should you wish to avoid this entire process in the future, you can use either OBMM or Wrye Bash's mod manager at this point to create mod files simply by including the entire contents of each Data folder. 5. Delete all the interim files you created in the above steps. 6. Launch the game, go into the Data Files section, and select the appropriate checkboxes.Yes, other people have mentioned it, but here are the instructions. You best love me for this.
