isn't it wonderful to play a game where you dictate what is right and what you consider to be wrong without outsiders voiceing their opinions.Enjoy "your" game the way you like because in the end the only one you have to please is you!!!

Amen!

It's based on opinion really but I personally consider it cheating and wouldn't use such a mod. If you have to touch the console for ANYTHING other than getting unstuck from some sort of bug or fixing an issue with graphics etc. then I consider it cheating.

I personally never have issues with encumbrance, so I assume other people are just too lazy to clean out their inventory between quests/plundering etc.

All the excuses people make to feel like that they are not cheating are quite funny, sure you can do whatever you want, but saying it's not cheating when it clearly is, is a different story.

Custom house mods I feel are generally fine, I tend to avoid overly huge and extravagant houses that stand out though because it just doesn't feel right haha.

I also avoid mods that add in custom content like new weapons and armor because 90% of the time they're horribly balanced or just plain bad. I tend to be a purist only modding little things in the game that bugged me, like Oblivion Gate weather.

I'm an extremely visually oriented player and the vanilla designs are serious crap. I'm making my own houses, my own custom companions that are replicas of me and my husband, and modified the sky and textures, etc. I like mods, I like new weapons, I like changing things (like new weapons and clothing and body textures and faces) to my own personal tastes.

If it weren't for the ability to mod Oblivion I would have died of boredom and moved along long ago. Vanilla oblivion is fine for one play-through and then it's onward and upward to building your own dream game.

I'm fine with changing the games look, if I could be bothered I'd download texture mods, etc. because there's nothing wrong with changing how things look, and I said things like house mods a generally fine, if you want a mansion knock yourself out.

I was generally just talking about people using the console for everything like money, or mods that add in a "Sword of Doom" that does 5000 Damage or something.

If people want to cheat then they can knock themselves out, that's their right, it's a different story though when they say something like "I gave myself 20,000 gold to buy a house but I'm not cheating."

That's just my opinion though.

If the guy isn't starting out in jail and wants to own a house at the game's onset, he could either make a mod to explain how he owns the house, (hmm Frostcrag, Vile Lair..) or he could use the console to purchase the house because he's already supposed to own it anyway. No, I don't call that cheating I call that making do when you don't know how to make a mod or can't be bothered. It's his roleplay game after all.

If someone wants to have a house at the beginning of a game then fine, then whatever.

I think you somewhat missed the point of my opinion earlier, I am just saying that people who do something like use the console to give themself money or something similar shouldn't say they aren't cheating when they clearly are.

Lets see some examples.

Play the game the way you want to: that's the beauty of a single-player RPG. The Console is there for a reason: it is a tool you can utilize, as well as any mod you choose to install & activate.

I find myself using the Console to replenish Varla Stones, because the game has a built-in hassle to find them.

The console is a tool you can utilize? Yes it is. Why do 360/PS3 users not get this tool? There is a difference between utilizing a tool and using the console commands to give yourself free stuff

I gave my new character enough money using the console to buy a house. Some people might consider that cheating but I wanted a character that was a resident of IC so I used the Talos Plaza home mod and bought it.

That is cheating no matter how you word it my friend.

There's no real cheating in a single player game, you're just modifying in one way or another.

I'll usually play a game a couple of times if I like it without any modification at all but after that I'll use the console and twink up all the characters all I want just because it's fun and I don't always want to grind out repetitive bits.

Yes it can be fun, but it is still cheating one way or another. I myself cheated some insane stats and items onto a new character after I finished Morrowind.

Yes I cheated, not creative problem solving or modifying. I cheated for stuff, see? I don't have issues admitting that, I don't feel the need to re-word things to make myself feel better about it.

Lets cut the excuses shall we?

heh heh, it's kind of amusing that you seem to be so invested in defining "cheating".. It's really none of my business how someone plays their own single player game in the privacy of their own home. It's right up there with what my husband and I do in bed at night. Even if it's only sleeping, and only with each other, it's no one else's business. However once you start talking about it, everyone has an opinion.

I concur completely. The human capability for self-deception is practically infinite. And yet we would define for others, what is right and what is wrong. Perhaps some are comfortable with that. I am not. When that process of defining for others, what is right and what is wrong is taken just a few steps higher, history shows that the many have died as a result of it. Unless you are perfect, the only one, you can truly judge is yourself. For myself, I would define anything else as foolishness.

If someone chooses to add things to "their" game to make "their " game fun how and why is it your concern? Because I choose not not doesn't make what someone else does cheating.

There are no excuses, it's single player. If you're happy with what you're doing that's all that matters.

I agree one persons mods are another persons cheats, but no need to tell them they're kidding themself or making excuses.

As I mentioned I always play games vanilla first, if I like the game then I'll mess around with it longer, modifying things and having fun, how is it cheating? who got cheated?
