Vengurd
Help! I brokeded my gaem! D: Plain and simple, I enjoy skyrim, but like any TES game, I get really bored with the vanilla experience pretty quickly, that said, I've spend quite a long while on nexusmods just adding mods that compliment how I like to play TES games pretty well, that said, the problem I have is that I likely added too many mods to my little collection, I like them all, and I have no clue which ones might be causing the issues, nor which ones I wouldn't care as much to see removed. The issues are, as anyone would imagine, are CTD, random lagspikes, and generally unpleasant moments of "oh no, don't break now!" Currently I am wokring on a (I wish) short list of mods that I have- most of them either deal in immersion, adding npcs, torches/lights and other such none-sense. IF this is in the wrong place, my apologies, please move this to the appropriate spot for me and I'll try to do better next time. The list-In Alphabetical order, esm then esp. Anyhow, I pretty much wrote this up on the fly, if anyone is willing to help me with this, I'd be grateful. I know I haven't been entirely clear on what I need help with, but I'm hoping the huge list makes it pretty self evident- here's the short version: I can get into game just fine, make the character and run around. As soon as I reach the Jarl of Whiterun, everyone inside turns hostile for no reason- not entirely sure which mod is causing that one- and I get random CTD's. Usually it is in the big bad wild, sometimes I'll be chilling in my own little home, other times I'll be in a dungeun. What makes this worse is just about anytime I look at what mod to remove, I tend to get distracted and add more mods. As I said, vanilla TES games just don't cut it for me for some reason. EDIT I forgot to add an important ingrediant- computer specs. Here it is in very vague terms8 Core Processor,GT 550 Nvidia Graphics Card,10GB RAM2TB Harddrive.Directx 9,10,11 compatible,Opengl compatible, you get the idea compatible,Too many pickles in the mainstream! It is very late and I'm tired, don't mind the craziness please. I'll remove what I can of it later. Edited September 19, 2013 by Vengurd
lordmonkus
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1015916-ultimate-skyrim-nexus-mod-management-guide/ Here is a post from a little while back which is a guide and has a list of mods that are out dated and not recommended for one reason or another. Right away at a quick glance I see 2 mods that stick out as being on the not recommended list and those are Claralux and Warzones. These 2 mods may or may not be a contributing factor in your problems and I am in no way saying these mods are bad myself. I am merely pointing you to this guide which I found quite useful in selecting my mods and I have a very stable game running with about 150 esps. I am by no means an expert but the way I have come to understand it is that any mod that is heavily scripted is bound to cause issues at some point. Anyways I hope this guide helps you out, like I said I have about 150 mods installed and my game runs solid and I have even done the dreaded no no of installing and uninstalling many mods trying them out and never really lost a save game due to corruption. I did have to revert once to an older save losing maybe an hour or so of gameplay though.

D: I think you've broken your Spell Checker as well! WARZONES - Civil unrestBetter Warzones Soldier Uniforms with Cloaks First off, I'd get rid of these two. Warzones hasn't been updated for far too long and caused all sorts of CTDs for me when approaching certain spawn points, especially with SkyTEST active. It's a shame as it's a good mod, but papyrus has seen some changes since it was written and it's not worth the risk. I had to choose, do I want better Wilderness for Ranger/Druid types or do I want more Civil War realism, so I went for SkyTEST. It is still fully supported and updated. Also, get rid of CLARALUX if it has also been identified as outdated as lordmonkus says. If that does not improve things with a fresh start, you'll have to look at the others. BATTLEFIELDS I don't know this one, but you have a lot of battle zone and civil war things. Perhaps it would be better to choose which ones you really need and have a stable, improved game rather than having several overlapping mods that do basically the same thing and could interfere with each other? CampsCamps2Main Refugee Campe WhiterunMilitarized SkyrimFortifiedMarkarthWindhelmMilitaryEnhancement Do you really need ALL of these? Immersive BattlesImmersive BrigandsImmersive DawnguardImmersive DragonbornImmersive FactionsImmersive MercenariesImmersive PatrolsImmersive Werewolves I have all these and they seem to cause no problems with my 130-odd other mods. Having said that I took them out yesterday as they were spawning big battles everywhere I went and I got a bit tired of them. But then, why do you have: Immersive Brigands AND BanditraidsImmersive Werewolves AND SIM - NPC AdditionsWEREWOLVESImmersive Factions AND SIM - NPC AdditionsHOSTILE AND SIM - NPC Additions with Immersive Mercenaries and Immersive Patrols? That just seems to be asking for trouble as from the name they seem to basically do the same thing. So pick the one you like and go for it - SIM or Immersive. And heavy graphics mods can cause CTDs as well. Do you really need Unofficial High Resolution Patch when you already have the Official High Res Texture packs? Anyway, have a good think and a clear out and it should help a lot. ~.~

Not quite. I think a heavily scripted mod that is not updated when papyrus and the way the game works has been changed by an official patch can cause problems. And removing a heavily scripted mod without shutting it down properly or starting a new game without it can often cause problems. Old scripts with certain functions that should never be used ALWAYS cause save bloat if the mod is removed and the script is still making redundant calls to things no longer there. But there are lot of very good, very complex mods which are heavily scripted which work perfectly well with no problems. But they do tend to be well-supported and frequently updated. But the general rule I use is if a heavily scripted mod has not been updated since patch 1.9.32.0.8 I tend to avoid it. Especially if there is no version or patch for Dawnguard and Dragonborn. And it is always best to start a new game if an updated mod has changed it's scripts. Most of us don't, and I managed from March 2012 until after patch 1.9 to avoid stealth updates from Steam so mods could be updated for the patches, but my first character lasted 450 hours or so. ~.~
Vengurd
Whu! Thank you for the swift replies, I'll respond to the points as they came to me. Firstly, Thank you lordmonkus for that very helpful guide. I am already putting some of it to good use, and seriously reconsidering my choice in texture replacers. Secondly, Warzones and Claralux have both been removed- usually I pay good attention to when mods have last been updated, but provided who they are from and how good those mods are, I slipped up on that one. Thirdly, I forget exactly what battlefields is other than it is a primarily cosmetic mod, i.e. It adds a few random fields of battle to make skyrim look like its already had a few good fights. Fourthly, just because I feel it has to be said Shadeybladey, do we really need any of these mods? :P In all seriousness, I probably don't, but this also goes back to my not quite being satisfied with anything vanilla in a TES game. It all just seems so bland, like Bethesda spent so much time on the bigger picture, then hastily ran through the smaller details with a too large pen. However, I'll take a closer look at those you're asking if I need and see which ones are really worth keeping. Fifthly, I've had both SIM and the Immersive mods for a very long time- for at least a year and I've had no problems concerning those particular mods in the slightest, of those mentioned, I'll keep them, primarily because, despite appearances, they actually work together rather cohesively and even compliment each other. Sixthly, this touches on the first point, but I've seen the mistake I made in having multiple retexture mods targeted at mostly the same areas, that is something I'll be spending time on when I have a little more attention to spare- when I'm not wasting the night away. :P Seventhly, Why do I get the feeling that I can add 'thly' to just about every number, and not worry about it sounding wrong, regardless of it being an improper use of grammar? All that said, thank you much for the help so far, and I apparently broke skyrim further by adding several more mods (don't hurt meh!) The new mods are Bandolier, Bags and PouchesAlchemy TweaksNightmare - increased enemy spawnsLightweight scrollsBandolier, DawnGuardWeightless SoulgemsIngredient ReweightAdvanced MannequinsFirewood, Ingot, Ore weight reduction Thats all I'll be adding in for tonight, I'm too tired to really bother with it and I figure I should wait on adding more until this is all fixed- especially now that I seem to be CTD whenever I try to start a new game or shortly after loading an old one. lordmonkus
@Shadeybladey: Thanks for clearing that up for me. As I said in my previous post I am by no means an expert in all of this so any chance to learn something new is always great :)
Vengurd
Well, apparently removing some of the graphics solved my immediate CTD, in fact, since then I haven't had any real issues, just a few floating grass bits, but thats due to load order stuffs- apparently even BOSS isn't getting that bit right so I have to play around with the load order (fortunately its just one or two I have to move around, not a whole bunch). Thank you all for the help. Now I have one last question- I have SkyUI as well as map marker mods, specifically-Atlas Map Markers with Dragonborn, Dawnguard and blackreach addonsLegwons colored map and compas markers. Is there a specific load order I need to follow since in-game, when I look at the map, Skyui mentions the map.swf or some such is missing/changed- Sorry I can't be more specific right now, but thats the gist of it. lordmonkus
Sounds like you were hitting the memory limit and crashing due to all the textures. As for your SkyUI question I think there is an issue with map markers and the new SkyUI. I use Not Another Colored Map Icon Mod and I get the same error message. I don't think it's something wrong with SkyUI but rather something the other mods need to update. Edited September 20, 2013 by lordmonkus
Vengurd
Well, I'm back. I've given up on skryim since right after my last post, I had everything working just fine. Ran to Whiterun to get the main quest going, bandits were attacking. Figured I'd loot bodies while the bandits fought the guards (all the bandits were aggro'd on them, had no worries). So as I was looting, the fighting was going on. I stop looking a particular body and a bunch of bandits run in front of me....and begin to push me away from the body....I counted about thirty bandits between me and the body (in a huge closed in mass of digital flesh) charging up the hill to deal with those pesky guards.....then I crashed. Thing is, I've looked at all the mods I have that add spawns, none of them should be spawning that many, even putting the totals together, so I'm thinking I broke something somewhere else. Decided to not bother with skyrim for the time being and focus on Total War Rome II for now.
