bobsobol
Hi there. I'm using TES Nexus for some time as a consumer, and have recently started to share my reworks. As I'm still working with others, or on work done by others, I'm being very careful to give full credit, and contact original authors before redistributing. One such collaborator is concerned about the re-distribution of sub-sets of their work, and for their assurance I have attempted to give them access to the file on TES Nexus by adding their accounts user ID to the list of allowed editors. However, she doesn't quite know how to use this feature from her end, and since I have no experience with this, could someone give me an example that I could pass on to my collogue? It would be nice if I make an edit in response to user requests with which she is not happy and then (for reasons unknown) suddenly disappear off the face of the web, it would be comforting (I hope) for her to know that she could pull the file on her own. TIA, bobsobol

bobsobol
theres a little blue icon next to where it says add other ID's hold your pointer over it and it gives you instructions Thanks Dezdimona, but I think I got that part right (I hope)... what I'm not sure about is how she should access the file I have allowed her to. (following the instruction on the tooltip pop-up) She says, she finds the file on TES Nexus and it looks just like any other, no edit controls etc. But I think if I go to it that way, it does to me too, so I figured that it would have to show in her "Manage my files" section, as that's the only way I can edit it myself. Am I right? Am I wording it so wrong that nobody would ever understand? Or am I just completely wrong, and she needs to do something else entirely? The reason I'm asking, when the problem isn't my end but hers, is that I feel it's my responsibility to give the original author as much control over her work as I possibly can. Should anything go wrong, she shouldn't have to go hunting down sub-authors or moderators here to take back what is hers. This might be a simple thing at the moment, but I hope I and others here can work collaboratively more, and I see this feature as a tool that would help us (as developers and artists) trust each other with our prides and joys far more. So I'd like to get it right from the start. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. :s :thanks: 8< - - - - - - - Edit - - - - - - - Or is it the "Manage other files" on her main profile page? That would make sense. :\
Palpenious
You could always PM her the file and let her upload it as "ver. 2" or something to have full control over it.
bobsobol
You could always PM her the file and let her upload it as "ver. 2" or something to have full control over it. Ah, I could, but the changes I made (while impossible without her base) are quite drastic, and designed to fulfil an entirely different primary purpose. I use only a small part of her mod in mine, and there is stuff in mine that isn't in her original. So it really is a derivative re-work rather than an alternate version. Of course, if the improvements to my mod become significant enough, or bugs fixed in mine apply to her also she's welcome to re-import my updated base into her work. But it's definitely not there yet. Additionally, while I credit her with the base that I build on, it's not fair to ask her to maintain and support my mod. She has no understanding of how I have retooled her work, and should not need to. As I said to her, I wouldn't eMail Linus Torvald for support issues with Mandrake Linux just because he was the original Linux author, but I hope his name is still in the credits of every Linux distribution. He wouldn't have a clue what Mandrake do with their distribution, but Mandrake wouldn't exist without Torvalds original design and code base. An extreme example, but I hope it makes the point. Of course, Torvald can't take back his code and shut Mandrake down either, because of the nature of GNU style licensing. But we work on a more CC style license here, and if she wants to stop people using her design, I will have to close down my mod and either re-implement her work from memory, (closed book reverse engineering) find someone else who could provide an alternative base or just cease my mod. That's the nature of Artistic tinkering as opposed to Engineering development. And I'm all good with that.
LHammonds
I assume you are talking about Legion RObe Trader. I noticed this pop up on my radar a couple days ago but was not sure why. When you give editing access to other members, we see the mod show up on our "member" page. I click "MEMBERS" at the top-right of the screen when looking around on TESNexus.com, then I click the link called "Manager other files you have access to (##)" and the "##" is the total number of files you have access to. For me, it was 6 for the longest time but I noticed it showed 7 recently which has your mod inserted in the list. Once I click on that link, it shows me all the files very similar to the fashion in which I edit my own files. The only difference at the moment is the apparent lack of an ability to upload a readme file. As an admin however, I do not need to be granted editing access since I have direct access to all files as if they were my own. ;) Anyways, that should explain how it is access...and if you have any files of your own, the list and edit abilities should look very familiar.
