Guest Messenjah
Hey, I was thinking about changing Fallout 3 so that you have to work harder to complete the game. I really enjoyed Fallout 3 other than the fact that you can easily break the main quest line AND you can pretty much complete the main quest within a matter of a few hours. I also felt that the game became a little too easy and simple at times. So, I am trying to break into scripting a bit. I'd like to shake things up and make the game a little bit more challenging. What I want to do? Set a lock on various doors within the game so that the player may not pass through these points unless they reach a certain level or have achieved a certain goal. IE: while I was going through Megaton, I refused to check out GNR radio because I didn't want to travel along the main quest yet. I was saving it for last. I generally try to take on all the side quests first so that I can build up my character for the main quest. However, I had a lot of side quests telling me to go to Rivet City, so I headed there first. Upon my arrival, I talked to a certain character that caused me to skip the Galaxy News Radio Main Quest completely! I also found other areas that I could have discovered had I accidentally run onto them, causing the main quest to skip! So, I'm wondering if a script can be written, to completely lock a door until the player has reached a specific level or has taken care of a certain goal. So, for instance, when you get to Rivet City, when you attempt to open that door, either that door won't lock or a certain character won't appear until you finish the Galaxy News Radio Quest. Another thing I would like to do, is remove fast travel and improvise with a different form of travel that the player has to earn. Perhaps a stolen Vertibird that the player can call on for pickup but can only be transported to certain points and they only become active when discovered. I guess, what I'm getting at, is, is all of this possible? Also, other input on the travel system would be welcome. :)
TGBlank
there's already about a zillion travel system mods ^^'that, and you can just 'choose' not to use fast travel / go to rivet city and advance the main quest. As for the rivet city thing, just edit the dialogs of doctor li so she doesnt tell them unless you've advanced enough in the main quest. Guest Messenjah
Hmmm, I'll look through some of these fast travel mods. Thing is, that the systems I've read through, I just didn't particularly like. None of them really try to fit within the lore itself. My system would basically involve a "companion" that, if you help her, will escort you around in a stolen vertibird. Basically, I would like to set up a quest line so that you have to locate and repair the bird first. :) As apposed to being a member of the enclave or calling in an enclave vertibird randomly and it for no apparent reason, just helps you out. ;)
Guest Messenjah
Oh also, it isn't just Dr. Li that I'd like to shut up. I'd actually like to close off a particular vault as well. :) Also, I need to probably edit some dialogue for some character's at Paradise as well. TGBlank
So far for what you want, it's just a matter of adding extra conditions for certain dialog options, (the main quest stage, for example), or editing a door activator. As for the traveling.... GTS maybe? give it a through read.
