  1. I'd rather wait for custom maps and quests than ask for respawns. Grinding is... ewww.
  2. Damodder makes automatic backups of the addins.xml, it can also make manual backups of your mods. No idea about modmanager, and mixing up between apps may not be a good idea depending on how they where made and how do they keep track of things (Damodder would not be able to uninstall or check on override mods not installed through it, for example). Your dragon age settings folder under mydocuments should contain a bunch of AddIns.xml.bak.1, AddIns.xml.bak.2, AddIns.xml.bak.3, etc. created by damodder, these are the backups. Either tell damodder to roll back to one of these, or rename one of them as addins.xml.
  3. The problem shouldn't be the save, but your addins.xml and the leftover mods. If you where smart and used damodder, you'll have backups. If you didn't, you'll need to manually remove your mods, then somehow find a non-corrupt, empty addins.xml, and re-add the mods.
  4. Cap may be related to Module core scripts instead of dazips themselves, further testing with mods that don't use module core scripts is needed. Other than that, you cannot merge said scripts through a program, you simply can't. Resources, non-conflicting scripts and other misc stuff can be extracted and repacked, or put into the override folder. In any case these kind of things shouldn't cause issues at all.
  5. - Play on easy. - Use non-FF aoe spells. - Learn to Aim. - Don't put big aoe of doom to be used through tactics. - Hold position.
  6. You installed dragon age mutator and enabled the dohickey that makes warriors able to use bravery to pick locks and then forgot about it?
  7. Remember that when making dazips, by default and unless the modder is aware, doesn't need it and removes it, you get another instance of module core running. Everytime something semi-interesting happens, all module cores get called to handle it; many of these at the same time is bond to bring out the ugly.
  8. Note: the voice comment was me running out of similarities, seriously, they have almost nothing in common. The best way for you would be to get your hands on a demo, or a demo of any of the games i listed (preferably not of mass effect, since the combat system is completely different). Other than that, DAO focuses on a stronger main quest with a certain degree of branching, appealing companions with well-worked personalities and dialogue, and strategic combat. DAO is NOT about free roaming. Compared to, say, oblivion, which is ABOUT free roaming and procrastinating, haves no companions, interesting dialogue or plot to speak of, and combat is about "action" more than strategy. Note, this is not game bashing, Oblivion does very well what it is about: exploration and free roaming; like any good sandbox game. DAO combat is not turn based per se, but you are controlling up to 4 characters, able to switch between them as you please, and combat can and should be paused whenever you feel like it to switch characters, assess the situation and queue actions as needed.
  9. Graphics are better than unmodded oblivion. Engine is much better. As for whether you'll like it or not, i can't say. All that this game and Oblivion have in common is: - Medieval setting + magic & misc. - It haves quests. - The main character is not voiced - Ehm.. hmm... the name of the companies that made each start with the letter B. Have you liked baldur's gate? baldur's gate 2? neverwinter nights 1 or 2?, kotor 1 or 2?, mass effect? (this one is the less similar).
  10. What are you using to make the installer?. Scratch that, better question: why are you making an installer in the first place? can't you just zip it and let users have damodder install it?.
  11. There's not even enough xp in the game to hit more than 23.
  12. Multicore is no longer an enhancement to 'only' using multiple programs. Most heavy modern apps, and yes, that includes games, now can use multiple threads to take advantage of multicore processors. Multicore processors also come with more cache, which dramatically reduces data exchange with the ram, ergo, more speed. As for xp/win 7, the only mechanical reason i see to go from xp to win 7 is to use 64 bit win 7 to take advantage of 4+ gb of ram. Lastly, don't underestimate hdd usage and transfer speed. Gamebryo (fallout 3/oblivion) engine is a testament to how important it can be.
  13. Could you use [ code ] tags or otherwise something that respects identation?
  14. With mine it barely tops the 10~20 secs on locals, and 20~50 on map travels. When it starts hitting near 50 (normally after 4-6 hours of gaming) i quit and reload and everything is smooth again. Running with a core 2 duo 3.0 ghz, 2 gigs of DDR2-1066 corsairs, and a 8800 gtx. I guess the card and the faster ram is helping me there.
  15. I agree Balagor, you'll probably need a dual core to run it good. You could probably run it on medium graphic settings and decent-yet-stuttery fps, with possible problems on heavy combat or heavy graphics areas depending on how well configured is your pc, your ram (both capacity and speed) and your harddrive's speed.
  16. The modders that made amazon curves, the curvaceous armors, berzerk sword and another who made some elven blades have already successfully brought new models to the game. There ought to be others too. Give it some time for the tools to evolve and the modders to pick up on them. Do i need to remind you that oblivion's nifskope (that was entirely community made, there where no developer tools for importing models at all, and it's creation was jumpstarted due to the fact that the gamebryo engine is not unique to Ob) is still beta and not entirely functional?.
  17. Toolset ain't that bad, sure it's limited, just like the geck or the oblivion toolsets where limited, tho each on it's own way. Here at least you can mess with talent and combat damage calculation scripts without too much digging (try THAT on elder scrolls, i dare you), but need to change 4 different things to add an armor set model to the game (vs the comparatively simple method for elder scrolls), for example. It's rather similar (and rather improved) to, say, nwn2's toolset, made by the same company. The layout of the toolset, the maps & pathfinding, file formats, organization, 2das (with this bringing m2das, which was terribly necessary), utis, similar scripting that changed for the better, and i wouldn't be surprised if the models and such where equivalent too. My biggest gripe so far is the difficulty to toy with the hud/menus.
  18. Curious. Have you tried loading pre-drakon and trying again?. If it happens yet again, then just unequip your stuff before being captured.
  19. Turn off combat damage floaties (the messages that say how much damage you did), it should help a little. Try also closing/killing unused programs when you play so the game can get more cpu to use. It still won't solve it entirely, you'd need a better pc for that. But it should help a little.
  20. The issue doesn't have anything to do with dlcs, but with fort drakon. Well, actually, the howe estate. Lemme guess, you where still wearing the guard disguise when fighting/surrendering to ser Cauldren?
  21. As far as i can understand, too many floaties (that is, text floating showing damage numbers) cause combat lag, i think turning it off on the options removes such lag. There's a few other things that could feasibly cause lag tho.
  22. If it doesn't work out you're doing it wrong. Also, try to edit posts instead of double-posting. While the link indeed fails, you could always use the search function on the files area. A search for "chargen" gave me 3 compatibility mods.
  23. Depends on the downloadable content, and depends on the mods. For dlc, big ones like warden's keep or stone prisoner work when activated after starting, smaller ones, well, you'd either have to restart, or complete the game and then restart. As for mods, read the mod descriptions ^^'.
  24. Disguising is one of the possible escapes, as far as i know. If your objective is to make the worst game, regarding alistair (and IF the game doesn't let you get alistair executed after making him kill Logain), you could harden alistair and leave the throne to Anora so at least he ends up as a pathetic drunkard in the end.
