moonhuntress89
Hello everyone,As I've spent some time browsing and trying out many mods, I've noticed some clothing (i.e. wigs, crowns, tiaras and such) mods that have items which can be equipped without losing hair and ears the character already has. I've learned that technically they replace slot other than head (amulet, tail, ring..), but I've been wondering if this is possible for default headgear? What I mean is, yes, helmet with visible khajiit (or elven) ears, argonian horns and/or hair, even if they'd weirdly stick out of helmet - this is due to few of my future plans for modding, so I'd handle some basic stuff first. Also, I was wondering if ears and horns work same as hair, since khajiit have both hair and ears but both are replaced with default headgear thus not visible. I'd like to have hair, horns and ears all visible, but I'm uncertain if these three work same i.e. use same (head) slot (at once?) since they all disappear when equipping headgear. If such mod doesn't exist, I'll try to make my own plugin/mod, but I'd need some tips first. This may sound a bit complicated or impossible but I'll appreciate any feedback I get.
Lanceor
Unfortunately, Oblivion has a very limited number of slots and they are all being used. The available slots are hardcoded and cannot be changed without changing Oblivion.exe itself (which I'm not entire sure is possible to do without the source code). While anything piece of equipment can be made to look like it's on the character's head, if it doesn't use the Head or Hair slots, then it needs to displace something else, usually Tail or Amulet. I suppose it's possible to modify every vanilla item to use the Tail slot instead, but the effect is that all NPCs will have hair/horns AND helmet showing at the same time, Argonians and Khajiit will never have tails, and mod added items won't conform to your new standard. Another way would be to merge the hair and head models together as a single unit and replace all existing hair models with blanks... but then everyone would have the same hairstyle and hair colour. As you can see, neither method would be entirely satisfactory.
moonhuntress89
Thank you for reply, Lanceor. However I did get a new idea to cover at least my future modding, and that is, for example, cuirass which would cover an entire body but won't touch the head slot, while having the helmet visible and so hair, ears and horns won't disappear. I'd say something similar was done in SI expansion Golden Saint armor or upper class clothing (Black, Purple and Red finery), not for head slot, but for gauntlets, boots and greaves. Also amulet wasn't visible when wearing finery but was still equipped.I'll do more thinking on balancing and enchantments later.
Lanceor
Yes, for a custom armour, that's definitely doable - visually, it covers the body, hair and head, but in terms of game mechanics, it only uses the body slot. Note that enterprising players would soon find out that you can wear a helmet on top of the armour, so you may have to script a way around that.
Tr1skaid3ka
While anything piece of equipment can be made to look like it's on the character's head, if it doesn't use the Head or Hair slots, then it needs to displace something else, usually Tail or Amulet. Hi, I'm sort of looking for something similar but I just want Khajiit ears I can wear with headwear and still be visible, and I don't mind if it takes up a jewelry slot. Preferably a ring, though, I've got a pretty nice amulet, and obviously not tail. Where would I find that, if anyone knows? Searching on google is only returning Skyrim mods on NexusMods for the same thing, but I want it in Oblivion If nobody's made this it's cool, but if someone could track it down/if it's something that could be thrown together quickly by someone who's good with modding, thanks! EDIT: Found something (http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/22083/) Works even though it's tail slot because adds other tails, kinda animu though but has vanilla khajiit ears too! Sorry for posting before looking harder but leaving link here for anyone else who finds this topic looking for mods for visible khajiit ears Edited December 10, 2013 by Tr1skaid3ka
