Random Crashes in Wilderness

Recommended Posts

Excepting sporadic lag issues, Oblivion has had no real problem on my computer running lately. (Except mods have some annoying little issues) But all of a sudden I get this issue with all of my saves where it crashes when I fly around on my dragon too much in the wilderness. No idea if this does when I'm walking, don't care because I have no need to walk that many miles through the wilderness. It's probably a new mod, but definitely not the Saiden Storm's Dragon mod. That one never used to have this issue. But I've heard that it's common for people to have random crashes. These aren't so random anymore, however, because they only happen outside when I fly my dragon for a long time. This also happened when I tried to fly to a faraway location with my demon (I don't like to use fast travel) If I'm remembering correctly, the demon did not actually CTD the game but this time I got a random loading screen probably 75- 100 feet above the southernmost coastline of Lake Rumare. Of course, the loading screen never loaded. So I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do but I really REALLY don't wanna do it because it takes forever to route down which mod is causing this so I'm posting this to make sure if anyone has had this same issue and what mod(s) or other variables may cause or solve this. I'll list a few of my latest mods since this happened: Some are outfit mods, all by A-Type2 (SPB). Enter the Shinobi I am using, Apotheosis Dark Path of Transcendence (which has shown no sign of working), Adventurer's Alchemy, Adrenaline Oblivion (And yes I use OOO Francesco's and MMM), Celestiel, Cragmorton, Dragons of Camelot, Some house and sky mods which could cause issues are: Misty Ruins, Aberwiin Manor, Adense Redcourt Castle, mjy Nibenay Castle, Fellmoon, and Cloud City Project.

since you didn't list a load order, try this one

General Load-Order Guidelines

Here are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally.

~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later.

~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN)

~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through.

Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later).

So basically, it stacks up like this...

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Minor Mods / DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mod/Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

Expanded Load-Order Guidelines

I would extend this to include:

Oblivion.esm

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

<Weather/Environment/Sound Mods>

<Minor Mods/New Items/Houses/DLC's (Post-Completion)>

<Major Overhaul Mods>

<Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence>

<DLC's (Pre-Completion)>

<Quests>

<Compatibility Patches/UOMP/Merged Leveled Lists>

And a special-case warning for Knights.esp (Knights of the Nine) -- you may not be able to move it earlier than some other mods (some people have had problems after moving it before OOO, for example).

That's basically the structure I use and I have 140+ mods working well together.

Another way of describing this (posted by DMan77):

....

Oblivion

unoffical patch

Deeper realism mods that add sights and sounds

added content like weapons/items

gameplay changes, like 'must eat and sleep'

The OOO type

the 'new begining' type mod..

What are your system specs?

You answer your own question if you read it again.

Flying around on your dragon or with the demon for long periods uses a lot of graphics & system memory for starters. Every new area you fly through has to be loaded quickly and eventually you run out of resources and the game crashes.

You'll get areas not loading properly, missing land and eventually the game or your system can't keep up. Before I upgraded my computer I had the same issue. Not enough resources.

This not the fault of the Dragon or demon mod. Try to cut down on the long periods of flying.

You say you're using OOO, MMM and Frans. Is that with FCOM, because otherwise they are not compatible and all of those also contribute to extra resource usage.

And as mentioned above a complete load order list would help.
