xxx696
Hello All, I've played the original Skyrim for years, and years ago I fought through the original set up of modding the game. I've now made the Jump to Skyrim SE/AE and am having some early problems. My knowledge and experience of setting up mods is very limited so apologies; I've searched the forums here and cannot find an answer and the troubleshooting guides have not allowed me to self-fix. I am running Skyrim AE through Steam. I am using Vortex for Mods. The basic issue is that in old Skyrim, I had MCM/UI configured so that whenever I went to menus, I could scroll through my in game mod configuration meus to make changes in game. Likewise, when starting a new game, I'd get messages on screen to tell me that MCM was configuring mods and I would be given options for enabling new soundtracks and the like. I have Sky UI_5_2_SE installed via Vortex, along with 'opt 4 Full Screen MCM menu for SKy UI'. Sky UI is enabled via the in game MOD menu from the main menu. However, I can't control any of the mods in game of configure them. As another issue, I've set up Papyrus with the zeroes replaced with ones so as to generate fault logs, but I don't appear to have a fault log folder in my Skyrim SE folder. Apologies for these very vague issues, but I'm not very knowledgeable with mods or computers in general, so any help would be hugely appreciated. IsharaMeradin
I don't use Vortex so I do not know all the ins and outs there. That said, Vortex has a profile system and as such it most likely has a place that it stores profile specific instances of the game's INI files. This might account for why you are not getting any papyrus logs. The correct file was modified but in the wrong file location. Unless, you are looking for the wrong type of log file. The files created by papyrus during run time (and will never have information about a crash) should be located at "Documents > My Games > Skyrim Special Edition > Logs > Script" As far as the other issue, do you have the correct version of SKSE installed for the version of the game that you have? If not, that could account for problems in-game. Also, while Vortex may have a way to install SKSE, I would still consider a manual install for SKSE. And if none of that helps, hopefully someone with more recent Vortex experience will come along and be able to assist better than I.
xxx696
Thanks very much for the reply - I manually installed SKSE64; Vortex tells me I'm on Skyrim Special Edition but doesn't go any further than that. Some other forum content seems to indicate that unless I've opted out, I'm actually on AE rather than SE. Is there anyway of determining whether I have the correct version of SKSE installed, and whether I've made a mistake in the installation process? Algabar
There are several ways to determine which game version you're on. 1. In Windows: Navigate to your Skyrim SE folder with Windows Explorer. Right-click "SkyrimSE.exe". Go to the "details" tab (I hope that's the correct name - I'm on a non-english version of Windows...). In that tab, you see the version number. Current version of "AE" is 1.6.353.0, "SE" should be something like 1.5.97. 2. In game: Open the "system" menu. If SKSE is running, you should see the game version and the version of SKSE in the lower left corner of the "system" tab. FYI: Current SKSE build for AE is 2.1.5, for SE it's 2.0.20.
