Need help figuring out why weapons have an english localized name on french game

Hi, this is a long shot but fingers crossed

A few days ago I've been transferring all my old NMM setup to Vortex and installed quite a few mods and updates. Everything is working fine except that some weapons now have an english name. Weirdly enough, FO4Edit shows no conflict and I haven't been able to find the culprit manually with xTranslator. Also, disabling all mods in Vortex doesn't fix the problem. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestion?

Heyas Doc. Sorry for your troubles!

My very first guess would be that when you updated, you updated either your sorting mod, and/or your keywords mods. Most likely you downloaded an update in English. I'd check AWKR (whatever whatever. sorry, that name is too many letters that dont form a word). And any sorting mods you are using, if any.

Hopefully that helps! :)

Hi, thanks for your answer.

I've narrowed it down to two "problems", first it's apparently the way Fallout 4 uses adjectives to name the weapons that is translated, not the actual weapon name. Like you know how a rifle becomes a sniper rifle with the right mods?

And also I'm really wondering if weapon names could be "pregenerated" at some point. I believe this is to allow renaming of your weapons, but it seems like if I use an english mod, play then remove all mods, the names stay in english on that save for a while even on an unmodded game. So that makes troubleshooting which mod is doing that a little bit hard because I actually have to go generate some random encounter and kill some enemies to see if the problem is fixed. Does that make any sense? Because it's the only thing I found to explain that the problem stays even on a completely unmodded and purged game

Hey again! Sure thing, no problem. Glad to try to help you try to get this sorted out ;)

The naming system in this game IS horrible. It sometimes makes items incredibly hard to find if you're carrying around a lot of stuff.

Perhaps a mod that adds multiple workbench modifications to items may be your culprit?

Ok, as far as "pregenerated". Nay, nothing that sophisticated.

In short, the game is dumb. When it comes to an item, the game only remembers the state of the item that it was in when it was Last Generated. In other words, what it was like, when you took it off a corpse, bought it, crafted it, modified it, etc.

What you can TRY. Is remove the item completely from your person, and exit the cell. Sell one of the stricken items to a vendor in, for example...Diamond City. Then exit DC. Go someplace else. Then, return to DC, find the vendor, and see if the item has changed.

This changes the dynamic. Because once you leave, and re-enter the city/town 's cell, that item in their inventory is respawned.

You can also attempt this with companion's inventory. Tho I don't think that it works with them, for some reason.

Now, that said. There's something that I want to warn you about, while you are disabling/enabling mods trying to find the culprit. And I apologize for not thinking of this in my original response. Randomly enabling/disabling mods Can lead to savegame corruption, if those mods include active scripts.

So, here's what I recommend. Get a mod called Cheat Terminal. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/13285

This mod, along with a host of other cool and cheaty things, allows you to change your character's Name. Why is that something that I'm bringing up?

Because, when you change your char's name, and then save the game, the new save goes to the NEW char name, NOT the old one.

It essentially turns the newly named char into it's own branch, in your savegame folder.

This you can then test the mods, enabling and disabling them, without the fear of a corruption that could lose you everything that your char has done so far. I use this method for TESTING new mods, quite a bit. And once your done, you can just delete the save game.
