Noob needs help

I think I found a texture set I can use for the body, hands, feet, & head that might work OK. But that still leaves the question of the mesh. If I use a texture set with underwear with and a mesh set without underwear, what's going to happen? Is the world going to explode? lmao

So that reduces it to 4 questions:

1. It doesn't seem like this NPC was allowing my body mod to replace the body in game. Is there anyway to make the NPC to allow the body mods to take over in game and replace the body like with all the other NPCs in the game? (is there a setting that I need to set?)

2. Where can I find a nude female texture body? (Vanilla & CBBE are the only full sets I could find and they have underwear on)

3. If the body mod takes over in game and replaces the body, then would it matter if she has on underwear when I build her?

4. Does the body texture need to have a VJ for her to have one in game?

As I recall, you have the option to install a nude OR nevernude body in the CBBE FOMOD. If your body texture does not have a VJ, then you might see a featureless slit in its place, where you can see all the way to her soul :) I think that I have seen this happen on a couple of NPCs where I replaced the body, but not the textures. FYI - I am not a mod author or maker of NPCs.

1. If you want your NPC to use whatever body replacer you have installed, change the file paths for torso, hand and feet in teh Creation Kit to the default locations.

This would be data/meshes/actors/character/character assets. You're looking for femalebody_1.nif, femalehands_1.nif and femalefeet_1.nif.

Alternatively, you can use the folder structure provided by "Make a follower kit". This would allow your NPC to have a custom body. If you want to go that route, copy femalebody_1 AND femalebody_0 (and also the _1 and _0 files for feet and hands) to the custom folder for your NPC.

2. Install CBBE with "nude" version - or use any of the numerous female body textures here on the Nexus. Most of them are nude.

3. Sorry - not sure if I understand that one. If your NPC uses the default body meshes, she will be nude if you installed a nude body. She will have underwear, if you installed a non-nude body replacer (or use the Vanilla body). If you want a custom body: Build that body in Bodyslide, copy the meshes from the default location (see 1.) to your custom meshes folder. If you build a nude body, your NPC will have no underwear.

4. If you want to use a body like 3BA for your follower/NPC, you should have it installed - and also all of its requirements.

Thanks Leonidas, but I think that's just for when the body mods take over in-game. If my NPC doesn't allow that it won't work.

Thanks for help Algabar.

1. In data/meshes/actors/character/character assets, the only thing that's there is the hair folder for Apachii Hair. In order to find the vanilla body meshes I have to use the BSA Browser and open "skyrim - meshes0.bsa" in my data folder and then navigate to "meshes/actors/character/character assets" while in the BSA Browser. But when I get there, there are only 2 femalebody nifs and both have on underwear when I look at them in nifskope. (femalebody_0.nif & femalebody_1.nif).

When I go into CK and I'm doing my pathing I'm pathing the textures. But when I navigate to data/textures/actors/character/character assets the only thing there is a tintmask folder.

What would happen if I just didn't repath them in CK and used the default paths that come with the Make a Follower Kit? Would Skyrim go to the BSA to find it or would it give me a red triangle? I'll delete the .esp and put a new one in there from the follower kit to reset it's defaults and see what happens.

The default address for textures in the follower kit's esp is Actors\Character\Female\FemaleBody_1.dds (in CK & in the Make a Follower Kit's .esp). So that's not the right path and there's no Female Folder in the Character Folder. But I still had to try it to see what happens. In CK she's just eyes & mouth floating over a red triangle. In-game she's just not there at all. So I can't use the default paths that the build a follower kit give me, which means I have to change the paths, which means something has to be there for me to set it to.

So do I need to somehow unpack the vanilla resources from the BSA and physically put them in the path you gave, then in CK path the textures to those assets in order to get the game to allow the body mods to take over in-game? (this is a big thing for a Noob, so I'm not going to do it unless someone with more experience tells me it's what needs to be done. And maybe tell me how to unpack the assets from the BSA without messing up the BSA)

2. I installed CBBE with the nude option but if the body mods don't take over in-game then she's only going to have what I gave her. I found a full set of nude textures in the Leyenda folder (body, hands, feet, & head) but what about the mesh? The mesh in my vanilla folder have underwear on. CBBE gives a nude body in their "unique" folder but only the body, no head, hands, or feet.

Does it matter if the Mesh has on underwear if the textures are nude?

If I need a nude Mesh, is mixing and matching the CBBE "Unique" body with Vanilla head, hands, & feet causing problems?

Most importantly at this point, if I figure out how to let the body mods take over in game then it doesn't matter if she has on underwear or not. So this becomes a mute point right now, I can figure it out later when I'm more experienced and just let the body mods do it for now if I can figure that out.

If I don't figure out how to let the body mods to take over in-game then I also have to figure out how to adjust the body during creation which seems like a headache. So the best option for now is figuring out how to make it so the body mods take over in game.

3. I don't know how to make a never-nude body. I was asking what would happen if I use the Vanilla mesh with underwear on if the body mods then take over in-game. I would think the body would be however I set it up in the body mod through bodyslide, I was just trying to make sure because that would solve many of my current issues.

4. I have CBBE installed, but the way I'm making her now whatever I give her is what she's going to have because the body mods are not taking over in-game.

I guess I'm overthinking it and making it more complicated than it needs to be. I can figure out the rest of the stuff later. For now only 1 question.

How do I make the NPC so that the body mods take over in-game?

If I unpack the resources from Skyrim's BSA and put them in these paths, then use those resources in that path when I'm doing my pathing, is that all I need to do for the body mods to take over in-game? (data/meshes/actors/character/character assets & data/texture/actors/character/character assets)

I'll experiment, create those paths, and move the resources I'm using now there and see what happens.

Yep, adding those folders to create and use that path worked. Now my bod mods take over while in-game & in CK.

Here eyes are off (pupils too high) and the skin tone is off between body & head which is strange since I used the full set of textures from Leyenda. But maybe that will sort itself out when I do the Nif merge which I really messed up last time.

I understand the first part of the nif merge but I'm foggy on the last part of it. I understand that I have to find the export from racemenu and the export from CK and merge the 2. I understand that I have to use Nif Optimizer to make both LE since NifMerge doesn't work with SE. And I think I have to use Nif Optimizer to turn the merged head back into SE. The part I'm foggy on is which Nif is the merged one, where to put it, and why. But I'll try to figure that out.

You helped me figure out how to let the body mods take over in game and I'm grateful for that. Now I can use the vanilla assets and make her with underwear and it doesn't matter. :)

I also don't have to unpack part of the bsa to put the vanilla assets in those folders, I can just take the files I need and add them there. (data/meshes/actors/character/character & data/textures/actors/character/character). So now I can just concentrate on the head.

Thanks a million.

I just did another test and started from scratch. I used the vanilla mesh & textures for the body, hands, feet, & head.

I still had the problem with the eyes being too high and the color mismatch between the head & body.

Also, her body looks like it's made of wood and this time my body mods didn't take over once in game.

I used the same folders as I did in my last test.

Her body rescaled to her weight the way I have it set up in bodyslide but the body mods textures were not used.

Does anyone know what might have gone wrong?

For those reading this, I hope you bypassed everything else and came right here. Sorry for the novel as I tried to figure this out.

I only have one question right now....

How do I create an SE/AE NPC (Nifmerge style) that allows my body/skin mods to take over in game and apply their textures?

To explain:
Currently bodyslide takes over for the body proportions, but the textures are still whatever I give her.
I know it's possible because when I installed the body/skin mods they replaced the texture of every NPC in the game.
I've also downloaded followers in the past that allow the body/skin mods to use their textures on them.
And when I make an NPC with CK they apply their textures to that NPC.
I just don't know what I'm doing or not doing to stop that from happening with these NPCs that I'm creating in Racemenu & then merging.

Figured out what was wrong. Something I installed was overwriting my body/skin mods, I just moved them to the bottom of the load order and I'm good. Strange though since I haven't installed any body mods or anything lately.

The problem came back. This time I just put the nude female body mesh from CBBE's Unique folder into their main folder.
I got a new body to use in bodyslide. Same name as CBBE's Unique Body Amazing but minus the "unique" in the front of the name.
Strange, something was stopping CBBE from using the Unique body that I know I was using before. But for now it's fixed.

And if the problem comes back again I'll end up trying to put the nude mesh & textures into my character assets folder. lol
