Short Lesson if possable on effects

Easy as pie :)

 

Open up your plugin, then go to Game Effects > Object Effect in the main listing on the left. You'll see all the current effects like power armour or weapon effects and so on. Easiest way is to open one that already does what you want to some degree and edit that. So for example, open up EnchPowerArmor by double clicking it in the list, and you'll see a new window with the applied effects:

 

Increased Radiation Resistance

Increased Strength

Reduced Agility

 

Simply right click in the main part where the effects are listed and you'll get a New/Edit/Delete menu. New allows you to add new effects from a list of pre-defined ones, edit and delete are self-explanatory.

First thing to do is change the ID and Name fields. ID must be unique and contain no spaces, Name can be anything you want and can contain spaces. When you've changed the ID (EnchMyNewPowerArmour for example) hit ok and the GECK will ask if you want to create a new form, so hit Yes and you've now got your own custom effect form (so you won't edit the original by mistake). Open up your new form again from the list, and now you can edit the effects to your heart's content, most of them are fairly self-explanatory, and you can look at the various other effects in the list for ideas on what stuff actually does.

 

As for editing the effects themselves, mostly you'll only need to worry about the Duration and Magnitude properties.

Duration is obviously how long the effect should last, and is mostly used for things like foods that give you temporary bonuses or penalties. So if you're working with armours and weapons mostly, you won't need to use the Duration field really.

Magnitude is the amount of the effect to be applied, so Increased Radiation Resistance with a Magnitude of 10 will give you +10 to your rad resist stat in-game permanently for as long as you're wearing the armour. Similarly, if you used Increased Skill Small Guns with a magnitude of 5 for example, you'd gain a permanent +5 to your small guns stat while wearing the armour.

 

Once you're done with the object effect, you just need to apply it to your armour or weapon or whatever you're editing. So go to Items > Armour and pick out whichever one you want to edit, then open the properties for it. You'll see a dropdown in the left section called Object Effect, simply select the new effect you just created (EnchMyNewPowerArmour using the previous example) and you're done, the new effects will be applied to that armour when you go in-game next with your plugin active.

 

Hope that all makes sense, just ask if you want something clarified (or want to know what a specific effect does etc.) and I'll try and explain it a bit better :)

thanks that helped alot, I was able to make what a wanted sorta, I wanted to make a Wasteland Player Hat (for the Wasteland Player mode. The resone I wanted this is that my Pc has a 1 charisma, SO I made this hat with a +7 Charisma on it(sorta a cheat I know but I learn some more about the Geck in the process), but I made still had a few problems tho. One Is I wanted to use the Unique hat worn by the Head Slaver Guy(I forget his name right now) but in the Geck this hat has no menu to edit, unlike most clotting/armor even after I duplicated it....(the menu where you have a pipboy icon and other choices does not seem to exist for this item, is that normal for unique items?). So I used a different hat for the base which had that menu. But after loaded in game tho it worked ok....sorta, but when worn it appears tilted and it sits on the shoulder instead on the head.... strange....here is the mod if you could take a look at it..

By head slaver guy I assume you mean Eulogy? Wears the red/pink suit and a hat with a feather? I've tried opening his hat and all the options are there, so not sure what's wrong with that for you. However, I just opened up your mod and tried a preview of Eulogy's Hat and the GECK crashed instantly heh. Opened it again and this time it worked (the GECK is seriously unstable, I've personally known it to crash while I was just looking at the main window doing nothing else heh). Anyway, it looks fine to me, Eulogy's hat loads up fine and all the options are there, so I'd guess your GECK has gone funny somehow, reinstalling will probably fix any problems it might have. I'll be happy to create the hat for you for now if you want though. You just want his hat with +7 charisma yes? And added to a container in megaton so you can get it easily (I noticed the containers you made while looking the esp over in FO3Edit)?

 

edit: ok, done. See attached. I edited one of the footlockers in the Children of the Atom's place in Megaton, it's 180 degrees behind you as you walk up the stairs to the top floor of the building (where they all sleep), and is assigned to the PlayerFaction so you don't get a karma hit for taking the hat.

thanks, I'll check it out. Don't worry about the Karma, as I'm currently playing a lvl 4 "Fat Cat" evil guy.. Who as soon as I get the Wasteland S Guide quest fin I am gonna Nuke the town. (tho its true I don't want anyone to atk me yet).

 

You seem to be good with the Geck, Could you check out my other mod (I stopped work on it a while ago as I could not salve a lot of problems, mainly my lack of Geck skills)

The .06 file as my newest version(follow the road from the dunwich building along the road which is not always touching the ground) , the other NWRtest2 is a test of re starting the whole thing in a new location. (start at the nuka cola factory and take the cab to the new locaton....click on the car door)
