ADragonCalledGeorge
How many times have you started a new game in Skyrim only to have been fed up at the lack of safe storage unless you buy a home, join a guild, or do the Main Quest? Thing is, I put those off for later as I like to get nice and trained up before doing all the quests and whatnot as I don't want to suck at them. However, I am a hardcore pack-rat in Skyrim and in this game I do not want to cheat for carry-weight as it causes problems with storage. I actually want to use in-game, vanilla houses for storage but they are so expensive when all I want is a bed and a safe chest, for now at least. I've already bought the very basic version of Breezehome in Whiterun but that's it as I haven't visited any other cities yet (other than Dawnstar if that counts) in this latest play-through. So I was struck with an epiphany! What do you all think about taking a loan or paying rent from the Jarl's steward instead of flat out buying a house? This is a common practice with many landlords in real life so why not in Skyrim? It would only further add to the Immersion especially since you have to agree to pay the rent either weekly, monthly, yearly, or some such date. If you don't pay up then the guards will come to arrest you and you can either go to jail and work to pay the fine somehow or resist arrest and whatnot. An idea is that you agree to go to jail and work to pay your fine for the Jarl but you don't actually work. What happens is that as soon as you get any gold either through loot, robbery, or shopping, then that money is automatically deducted from your inventory and paid to the designated steward/Jarl. A message will pop up on your screen announcing that you have paid your bills and are a free person. Personally I think this would be epic and further add to immersion and realism. It would also make player homes a lot easier to get for beginner players who just want safe storage at first. You could either take a loan to buy the entire house (bit by bit of course as per decorations) or you could pay rent for the in-game, vanilla player home after agreeing to a certain amount of time. I think this would be really cool and make housing in Skyrim a heck of a lot easier as I always struggle for gold at first. In fact, I only managed to buy Breezehome (just the basic version) because I farmed the invisible chest in Dawnstar that belongs to those cat-people merchants, lol. I know it's unforgivable of me but a true cheat since I didn't use the console or a mod - just an exploit! :) So yeah, I think it would be epic if this concept could be turned into a reality and I would definitely use it in all my games. But until then fingers crossed and, as always, many thanks in advance!! :)
