Monolithic0117
I believe it was confirmed that you reprise your role as Shepard (the Platinum Hits edition of Mass Effect included a feature about Mass Effect 2). Bioware has also officially confirmed that the info given in the teaser trailer is accurate. That means one of a few different possibilities: A. Bioware is pulling our legs and none of their 'official statements' are to be taken at face value (i.e. Sheps could be truly KIA or the teaser could be a smokescreen for the real story). B. You start the game as Shepard, then Shepard dies and you assume control of another PC. C. The story is told from an aftermath perspective, where Sheps is dead and by playing the game we learn how it happened. *edit: or D. Something changed between the initial announcement and the trailer. Perhaps you reprise your role as Shepard only if you utilize your ME1 save data. If you start with a blank slate, you begin with a different character. The BioWare Mass Effect forums have had some interesting theories on this.
JahRasta
I can't wait for this game either. ME 1 was enthralling and just overall fun, it gave me a feel of KOTOR, mixed with several other games that led to a fun, brutal, endeavor. As for shepherd, I honestly don't care either way, I only played at my cousins and his 360 frequently got the red ring so I'm not missing much in any case. Edit: Monolithic - I think you've covered pretty much every base available, lol.Oh, except for some giant mutant or natural disaster that ravaged shepherds life and he is now in a deep deep recovery which will requireyou to level up allllll over again, which solves the mystery for the guy who wanted him dead :)

They are going to have a very hard time fitting everything on to one disc with only one game, so I don't see that as a possibility.

Perhaps just allowing characters returning from the previous game to recognize you, and special possibilities, etc. The bulk of the game would still be the same. UnholyShadow
Yes, I was exaggerating a bit. It would still need new dialogue though, and dialogue is more work than most people think it is. edit: Just saw this video on youtube, it shows all of the hilarious renegade choices he has in dialogue. Doesn't really fit with the discussion, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
